Hey, i have a 98 328i and having trouble. So this morning i went to the store(3 blocks away). Got back in the car, turned the key and only got a fast clicking sound. Then every turn after that got no sound but the cluster lights and gauges going crazy. any suggestions on what that might be?

Dead battery, or bad battery connection.

It should be closer to 13V to start. Even 12V is a low battery.

A good battery will read a constant 12.4 volts under standard testing.
Anything below 12 volts indicates a bad cell in the battery. 10.9 volts is as good as dead.

^^ 12.6 volts is a fully charged battery. Battery should be able to hold a load half of its CCA rating at or above 10v for 15 continuous seconds. 12.4 is nothing to be of concern other than low state of charge, anything less than 12 after charge can almost be sure its got a bad cell or two
