Rear brake service indicator

Recently I have noticed that my X3 2013 shows 1400 miles for the rear brake service due and its been like this for the past 2000 miles. Has anyone experienced this or knows how to fix it.

I had the same thing happen with mine and it happened again at 25K miles. They manually checked it both times and reset it. I don't know why it doesn't seem to be accurate.

I have the same issue. I have 8500 miles on the vehicle now and if anything, I would think the fronts would wear before the rear. I checked my service info in iDrive and it shows the fronts with 3800 miles left. I have an 06 E60 that I drive a lot harder than this vehicle and have 30K miles between brake servicing.

How did you go about the problem? Did you guys get it reset at the dealer. Is it something that can be done manually?

This has to be reset at a dealer.
If you had coding done to your car, it will get erased.

This is only a guideline. The wear sensors kick in and give a red alert when you need to change the pads, the mileage indicator is the service center's "best guess" as to how long they'll last. Bear in mind there is only one wear sensor per axle.

i.e. at a service, they should measure the thickness of the pad and re-program to give an indication of how long they will last. Me, for example, had mine reset a number of time because I don't brake that much. Thus my rears lasted till 42k :-) fronts are still original (expecting them to go sometime in the next 10k)

Hope that helps!

Thanks to all for the good comments. I guess I won't worry about it too much as there is that sensor per axle. Next oil service I will bring the issue to my service advisor.
