P2187 and P2189 : System too lean at idle

I'm a bit confused on what this meant on my reader, and what's the repair cost or does anyone know the solution for this problem?

Underneath the plastic (bmw) valve cover, you will see a round cap. One one the left valve cover and one on the right. They are called pressure regulator valves... The black caps can be removed, and underneath, you will see a orange disc. This is the part that needs to be replaced. You can go pick it up from BMW for $22. Per disc. The disc act like a rubber "heart".... They pulse up and down ... They regulate the idling. Very easy job... About 40 mins of work..

When you take the old ones out, you will see that the disc are filthy and cracks have developed in the rubber ring... The extra air goes into those crack and causes the car to idle funny...

They are not EGR valves, they are crankcase vent valves

when the CCV's completely fail, a test for them is to pull out the dipstick with the engine running. If you can't, or it stalls the CCV's are usually the cause

correction (since this was a while ago) it was the oil filler cap that I couldn't remove, not the dipstick. Sorry
