another bluetooth question (2011)
So I bought a used 2011 328i base model. I have the phone button on the steering wheel but it doesn't do anything when I press it. I do not have bMW Assist either. My question is, how do i find out if it is prewired for bluetooth? It's looking like it is not but I want to confirm. In my trunk I have a box but nothing is labeled. It resembles an amplifier but I have no idea what it is.

Your owner's manual has the info on this, including the process to sync your phone with the car. Yours is slightly different than my 2009, but the info is in there.

The VIN Decoder yielded these results:
Prod.date 2010-10-27 HiFi speaker system Preparation BMW satellite radio Area-Code 1 for DVD USB/audio interface Code Control, Combox Telematics access request,country-spec. Control unit COP Multifunction f steering wheel US BMW US Radio Radio BMW Professional Radio frequency 315 MHz Control of number-plate attachment Does this mean I will be able to get factory bluetooth installed? I called the dealer but they said they would need to see the car. Thanks for the link. |

If you don't have the factory capability, BlueAnt makes some really handy hands-free visor mount devices like the S1 you can buy in the $40 range. Much more cost-effective than having a BMW tweaked. I have used them for years.

Your Combox can be coded for Bluetooth. You will need additional OEM hardware (Mic, BT antenna) to make it work once coded, though.
Contact forum vendor BimmerTech for details and pricing. |

Well I contacted BimmerTech but they told me that since they don't have an installer in my area they won't be able to help me. I guess this is something that they cannot do remotely. I'm in Virginia by the way.....oh well

Are there any other Forum Vendors who can do the coding? I'm in Washington DC and unfortunately BimmerTEch doesn't have any dealers in my area. I wonder if i can ship my combox out to have them code it?

Well I took a stab at trying to install the mic and I'm pretty sure I ruined the FZD. Now it won't get back into place correctly. Also, it looks like in order to remove the dummy mic you need to cut a piece out. It doesn't exactly drop into place.
