Broken LCI tail light :(

woke up one day and went to my car and saw this! the red plastic housing or whatever is broken but the inner parts work so im wondering if theres anyway to replace just the red plastic instead of wasting about $300 to replace the whole light.

nope, its all one piece.
the red lens is bonded to the rest of it. no way to replace just that part.

unless you go to savage - wrecker yard to get senc hand one

it's $300 unit.... even when LED inducator light out, still $300

Why BMW manufacture that way... such a waste on materials... I have no idea

For many years that has been the case for all manufactures, no? Even my old Golf III (a '96 I think) had sealed units to the tune of about $100-$150 a piece back then.

Last headlights I recall with screwed on covers were on my dad's old Wartburg...

all manaufactuerers try to be green.... the way they manufature parts go the other way as it's such a waste for us to throw away big parts

I totally agree. The almighty dollar trumps being green though, and I'm sure it makes perfect financial sense for BMW (and other manufactures) to do it this way.

I'm from a country where people fix things when they break, because resources were scarce. It was an interesting transition from "maintain and fix" to "make cheap and replace upon failure".

It is what it is...

i see...found some on ebay for about $205 ill have to replace it all i guess
