2nd key for a 2012 X3

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2012 X3 Xdrive from a non BMW dealer, when the paper work is done and when I ready to pick the car the sales man gave me only 1 key saying he has only one. And he is saying if I want he can order a duplicate key for me for a discounted price.

I want to know how much it will cost to get an extra key from BMW, is it not the dealers responsibility to get the 2nd key.

Your title says 2012 X3 but your write up says its a 2010? The current generation X3 key
(2011 +) are a couple hundred dollars ($250-$300). Since it's a used vehicle, the dealer doesn't have to provide you with 2 keys. You could have certainly negotiated that into your deal when you bought the car though.

2010 or 2012, you mentioned both years? An additional key for an F25 (model year 2011 and onward) is going to cost several hundred dollars and require programming to be done at a BMW dealerership.

I looked around elsewhere and saw a list price for the key quoted as $350, plus an estimated $100 - $150 for the programming.

You definitely want this handled by the selling dealer now, rather than it being on you at a later date.

oh i m sorry, i had 2010 328i which i trade in for 2012 X3 , so i m used to it.

so does it cost that much hell no, ya if i could have know before then i could have negotiated but they trick me and didn't mention about it at all. as i said i came to know only after all the paper work is done. i guess there is nothing i can do about it now... but he said he will give some discount on that, so lets see...

I got my second key for $280.

We are about to buy a used 2012 X3 as well. Our non-BMW dealer was up front with us about having only one key. We nogociated the 2nd key into the price. In my opinion, your salesman was being dishonest and you should complain to the general manager and the BBB. If you dont have the 2nd key, you car will be worst less as a trade in.
