Do you run your new X5 through the car wash?

Do you? Is it safe? Recommendations?

Thanks

Mine is white.
When I had my 330i, I washed it personally with TLC for the first 3 years, but later on took it to the car wash where it was put through the rig and then the folks there wiped and polished it clean. It really did not do any damage to the black metalic paint at all.

Jesus, if you have to go through a car wash, don't let the guys swirl those drying towels around.

Thats like sandpaper because the car wash doesn't remove all the dirt.

Never.
I maintain all my cars to the utmost. Autopia is a great car care forum to learn more.

What options for folks who have no time to wash their own cars.

The funny thing is that touchless car washes are actually WORSE than the regular ones.

I do auto car washes. It's only a car and not something I'm gonna keep forever.

Oh and it's black, so it's always dirty, or dusty, or water/sweat spotted.

Never hurt the trade in value in the past.

Once a week....typically I high pressure the wheels and then roll through one of those $3 washes with free vacuums. It's blown dry and I touch up any missed spots with detail spray.
Mines silver but I got to say that BMWs paint is pretty hard so unless you have a black or dark blue....I'd roll through one....

I must say the BMW paint is of top quality. My 330i had black metallic and looked great until the day I sold it- after almost 8 years and 102K miles. I never put her through the autowash in gas stations, but always took it to specialized carwash places, where they do run your car through the auto wash, but then hand dry them. Was always happy with it.

Just not sure about the X5 as it is significantly larger with more surface area.

I live in Michigan, so unfortunately I have to, to get all the salt off Sorry, there is no "good" car wash for your baby, especially if your baby's jet black. Mine is metallic, so it's a little more forgiving. But I cringe every time I go thru, and I go to a great car wash. I'm looking forward to warmer days..and maybe a silver car next time..

With all due respect, you dont know what you are looking at... it isnt possible to not create surface scratches on clearcoat, all you have are strategies to minimise, cover and remove. A drive throught with commerical towels WILL microswirl any paint. Period

Ditto above.

I will bet your car was covered in shiny orange peel paint!

BMW is some of the lowest quality paint in the business.

I guess I'm not familiar with the term "orange peel". Can you explain?

I go through a touchless car wash and its fine. I never go through ones that are not. I've had a couple cars scratched from them in the past.
