Front bumper paint
Hi,
I have 2010 535i and front bumper paint for some reason has started to come off a little. Is it something wrong or typical for a car less than 3 year old? What is worrying me so much was the way paint is coming up. It has become so soft and all you need is finger nail to take it off! I am not aware of anyone doing any damage to the pain and car is always in a garage. Any thoughts? Last edited by geek12; 03-15-2013 at 09:59 AM. |

This is more than i know, BUT..........
That looks like a repaint. Plastic bumpers need a certain amount of plasticizer mixed in the paint. If you paint a plastic bumper with regular paint it will crack as you see. Also the plastic has a lot of mold release to get it out of the mold. This must be cleaned carefully or it's like painting wax. AND it looks like the base is white - I dont know if the std bumper is white??? |

Thanks for your reply. I may have to check with my dealer. I only bought this car from that dealer not too long ago. The while body of bumper before black paint is also questionable.

My clear is starting to chip on my 2006, but I'm relatively sure that either the front was repainted or replaced.....just my experience.

That is probably due to a cheap repaint or probably the bumper was replaced with a generic one?

If the style is stock, then it may be a used white bumper - repainted. A used bumper also has to be well prepped to get off wax/dirt. It is best when lightly sanded and primed, then painted with a plasticized paint.
This looks like either a white aftermarket bumper (raw) or a white painted used bumper.

That was definitely a repaint - as the other said just sand an prime and that area will be good to go.

By listening to different responses from folks here, it doesn't look good for me
Don't think I can go back to this non-BMW dealer now from whom I bought this car 82 days ago.![]() I guess I would have to suck it up to it now and try to find someone who can match factory style paint. |

That bumper is definitely weird, ive never seen a BMW peel off and come white under it.
Don't worry man, just take it to a good/reputable paint shop and i'm pretty sure they will do a great job. |

That bumper was not painted OEM, BMW paint doesn't flake off. If you are in socal I recommend Tristar auto body in Huntington beach, they do amazing paint work
