Yes, if I keep the RFTs on the car, I agree, I need the insurance for peace of mind.

And thanks, your timeline is consistent with all the other feedback I'm getting here. I'm obviously hoping my car was already in production as my dealer told me because five weeks then becomes possible.

Will post random delivery updates on this forum just to ride out the wait!
Congrats on your f10 orders!! For your reference, the 5 year BMW wheel and tire ran me about 1000.00 in August 2012 for a MY2013. I heard BMW is easiest to deal with (no paperwork at any BMW dealer you end up), so it may be worth going for BMW if you can get it within reason of 3rd party pricing. I haven't had any issues with my 19" to date, however, considering some of the horror stories on this forum, I would also suggest getting it as well.

Luke,

Thanks for the info. I just spoke with my CA and was told that the finance manager will give me pricing. Still not sure if I'm keeping the RFTs or swapping them out but it's good to have options.

Now if I could only figure out how to speed up the time it takes for her to arrive

For me it's a no brainer. Switch out the RFT's. If your leasing hold on to them for when you have to give the car back. Win-Win.

DJ, what tires are you putting on your car when it arrives?

I was going with the Conti's DWS. But I think I'm gonna get the Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S.

Yeah, but the 535xi is a much heavier car. The Michelins have tougher sidewalls.

I've experienced zero issues with mine. I'm not doubting that some forum members have had issues with theirs, but we're two years down the road (no pun intended) from when those LS2's were first introduced, there might have been some improvements. Also, you don't see threads from other forum members, or the BMW population "at large" who don't have issues. I wouldn't rush to change tires, I would recommend running them for a while and see what your own experience is. As for "terrible ride", etc., reported for RFT's, I would disagree. My 335i and 535i ride very well.

Good luck with the car. One other question. If you ordered the car, why are you saying 5 weeks? You should expect more like 7-8 weeks for an ordered car to arrive to New York, 6 if you're very luck with timing of getting on a ship, etc. If you get an allocation slot immediately, like they changed an in-stock order for you, the build takes about a week. Transport to the port about 5 days. Getting on a ship depends on when your car arrives at the port. You can wait up to 10 days, worst case, for a ship. The ship takes about 2 weeks to cross to the US, it stops at some other European ports first. Then the car arrives at the VPC and can take up to a week there, then transport to your dealer. I think 6 weeks minimum.
Hey guys,

Just tracked my vehicle on BMW's website and it looks like the car's at the end of Stage 2 - Production Ends. When I hovered the cursor over that stage it says "Your vehicle has left the plant and is ready to ship." I just ordered my car last week, can that be right? Is it possible that the car is ready to ship so soon? I guess they would have had to have changed an in-stock order for it to be ready so quickly? If that's the case, and the car is really ready, trust me, I'm not complaining! Any ideas on that? Should I check with my CA?

Also, if the vehicle has left the plant, I guess my next step would be to find out what ship it's going to be on? I'm not going to get my hopes up but man, it would be sweet to get my car delivered within six weeks or sooner!!

Suggest you try what I recommended, get your SA to email you a scan of your current status, weekly, at least until it's on a ship. I attached those examples for you before. They will know what ship your car gets on, plus exact detail of the vehicle build/ship status. Don't guess, just call and tell him/her to send you the scan.

Mark,

Roger that! I am e-mailing my CA right now, will ask for a scan of my current status.

Thanks again.

The dealers are strongly encouraged by BMW to use their insurance. The dealers also dont want to be on the hook for $$ if claims arent paid by the 3rd party insurance. I left my dealer because they only sold BMW insurance for $1700.

I got EZ care for $1300 and any tire is covered. I blew 2 non rfts already this winter. There's alot of people on here who give bad advice.

Tell your dealer if you cant get thrid party you will cancel order and go elsewhere. Having to pay a premium to only be able to put runflats on at only a BMW dealer is crazy. If you are out of state you are ****ed.

I run my runflats for a while then put on conti extreme contact DWS. I use a front runflat as a spare - got a rim for $70 from tirerack. Bought a jack kit also.

The DWS's run fine in the winter and are top rated in the rain. The treadwear is also amazoing. 25000 rear 40000 front. around $240 each (1/2 price the rft's)

Make sure to time it right, you have to return the car with 5/32 of tread ( rft's)

PS another good reason to cxl order is you didnt list the anti roll. Its a must if you do any kind of spirited driving. Really missed it on my 1st F10 - good luck.

What dealer do you have ?

Hey Mark,

Quick update: My CA scanned the vehicle status to me and will do so weekly. Much more detailed info just like you said. Car is produced! Now all I need is for it to ship and the countdown begins.

Thanks.

I have already ordered Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus from Tire Rack and they are sitting at the dealer ready to be swapped onto the new ride immediately. I will then store the GY RFTs and swap them back on at lease turn-in in 3 years.

I had had a 330i E90 for almost 8 years and have been running the Conti DWS on it for about a year. Those are great tires and I almost bought them for the new F10, but several on this forum said the Contis are great on the E60 and E90 but not so great on the F10. So, I thought I'd try the Pilot Sport A/S Plus.

Also, if you want to track your car, here is a great site. Also, note that there is an iPhone app for marine traffic where you can track your ship as well. Good luck!

Wildcat/markl53,

Just received a status update from my dealer and my car is on a ship and heading this way! I'm tracking her and in a couple of weeks she should be here so with any luck, I will pick up her soon after that. Thanks again for the tracking info, makes the wait a little less frustrating!!

Good to hear! I am on vaca for spring break with the fam in California. But, my client advisor sent me about 3 pics of my new 5 coming off the truck in Cincinnati. I'm going to have the family drop me off at the dealer on Monday afternoon from the airport to pick her up. Sweet!

Cool! Good luck with the rest of the wait. I usually have to add a few days more than I'm expecting, due to the crazy sh!t that happens, a delay of a couple days at the VPC, etc. I always think there's some major issue with my car, like they have to do some big repairs, but in the end, it's just paranoia (!) and the car finally gets to my dealer, looking perfect. The closer it gets, the more maddening the wait is -- but it's so worth it.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned I'm doing the same. Chase, do not keep the run flats. The difference on my e90 was off the charts with non runflats. I'm picking up my ride tomorrow afternoon and will have the pilot sport plus a/s installed before pickup. I have the conti dws on my e90 that I just sold and really liked them. But some on the fest feel strongly that the dws are not a good match for the f10, so ill give the Michelins a whirl.

Good luck getting your car soon. I got lucky with only one day in Bremerhaven and a 9 day transport. Boat arrived Baltimore on March 22 and car was in Cincy exactly 7 days later.
