At full lock, do you mean steering full lock to one the ing direction? Every car gets that grinding noise at full steering lock from I think the power steering. I have a wheel chatter, you can feel the left wheel "hopping" like.

any update on this ?

I have to admit that I also feel like my car is downshifting hard when I am about to stop. But I only feel this in my parking lot when I go a very low speed to make u-turns at each level.

I drive straight around 20 mph, then I let go of the gas to slow down before the turn and for some reason around 1300/1400 rpm, the car slow down abruptly and bring the rpm down below 1k rpm.

That is weird. I mean I would expect the car to simply let get and run as if it was in neutral. As I don't touch any pedal, no brake, no gas and I am still going into a straight line.

Now that you mention the car might be anticipated a take off, it might be downshifting. I did not think of it as shifting are quite seemless on that car (a good thing), it could have been shifting without me noticing. Especially I am not used to the 8 speed so I was not thinking such small rpm change could be a downshift. But with 8 speed, the rpm change are really small.

It is very hot here in south florida and the 5.0 definitly run super hot. They should have fitted bigger intercooler on this thing. I can barely open my window at the light or I get super warm air coming from the engine bay.

Anyways, I'd be curious to see if the front transfer case is to blamed.

I also have a very small whine when I accelerate slightly at low speed. so far I attributed it to the turbo wine but I don't know.

For me the problem is not felt on the street so far, just that weird occurence in my parking lot, I'll try to make a video of it tomorrow.

I'd be curious to see a video of your rpm gauge when it happens.

My car is still at the dealer over the weekend... I hope they get this right this time.

I've been driving our lease 2012 X5 X5.0. It has no issue at all that I notice in downshifting, or chattering on full left turn or full right turn.

Pittwm,

if you can please make a little video with your phone of the loaner behavior, would really help me and certainly you as well if they give you your car back with still the problem.

Picked up my car a couple of days ago. The solution was to replace transfer case fluid. It's been a couple of days and both the clunky downshift and chattering left turning is gone. Hope this is a permit fix. Dealer did indicated if it comes back, then we are looking at a new transfer case.
