How do Download latest Software (for phone/etc.) off BMWUSA website?

I couldn't get my phone to pair up via Bluetooth Audio, so I called the BMW Customer Service from the iDrive. A lady I spoke to said you can go into your profile on BMWUSA, under "Bluetooth Connectivity" or something, and there should be an area for "Downloads" where you can certain latest Software updates.

I went and checked and couldn't figure out what she was talking about. I called the number back and spoke to a guy who had no idea what I was referring to, and that from what he knew I had to go to a Dealer for any kind of update.

Anybody know what she was referring to?

www.bmw.com/update

Enter your VIN and it will take you to the updates available for your car

You can download the update on a USB stick and update yourself using the USB socket inside the center console

No. You need an USB stick.

There are two sub menus in your iDrive to enable Bluetooth Audio. Your problem could be that you only enabled it in one menu but not in the other.

It is a messed up setup, but that's the way BMW did it.

Question, I have never updated my software. There are newer versions out. Do you guys keep updated or only update when you have an issue? Lastly, will updating this software impact any coding I have done?

Personally I keep updating whenever there is a new version out as updates bring features and bug fixes.

I doubt the update will impact any coding as it does not update iDrive. My old settings and bluetooth pairing were still saved after the update. Also, after update another option is enabled to restore previous version.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Recognition of my iPhone 5 sometimes chokes a little. I know the iPhone 5 was not out a year ago when I took delivery and this update mentions the iPhone 5.

The update that's supposed to be available for my car doesn't work. I enter my VIN, and it gives me an update for cars that were manufactured AFTER mine was. Frustrating, because the update is quite a few version numbers ahead of what my car has.

When does someone know they need an update? Car tells you or you just have to get lucky and hear about it on a web site like this?

Hey guys, I put that file onto a USB disk that has music on it and I couldn't find how to access the BMWUSA file anywhere. It just took me to the music on the USB stick.

.... wait, now it's got me thinking.... was I supposed to un-zip the file before I put it on the USB stick?

Grr. Okay so I went to "Settings" then "Software Update" and clicked on "USB" and it said "no file found on USB" or something like that.

I uploaded not only the Zip into the USB, but the individual files within the Zip as well, just to be sure one of them is readable. Am I not supposed to use a USB that also has music tracks on it?

Only thing I can think of is maybe the iDrive needs to be in a Connection-friendly zone (I was in a parking garage with no internet service or cell phone signal), but that doesn't seem to make sense as it said that nothing was specifically found on the "USB".

Hmmm...when I downloaded the file from the BMW Update site it came through as a straight .bin file. Not zipped or compressed in any way. I simply put it on a USB thumb drive at the root such as n:\UPD01006.bin. That's the only thing on the drive. I would suggest you get rid of any music as those probably autoplay. Also, internet service should have nothing to do with it. I just put the stick into the center console USB, went to settings/software update and it found the drive and file and began doing it's thing after another click to proceed.

Thanks. Gonna have to try it again and unfortunately delete all the music off of it.

What does it change, btw? Just the phones connectivity or anything else?

Still don't know what it changed after three days post upgrade. Also why don't you just copy the music from the USB drive to the cars hard drive?

How do you do that?! I was trying to figure it out but couldn't find a way to import from the USB into the cars drive. With CD's it seems much easier since right when you install the CD it brings up a section that has a bar which says "Import into Drive" or something like that. I couldn't find anything of the sort with the USB drive.

Push iDrive controller to the right and you will see the USB import/export options.

I believe you can only use the glove box USB port to store music. At least it was that way for the 2012's. I put a few songs on mine, but using a dedicated iPod is way simpler to manage.

I just updated mine. Thanks for the link.
As 2013 Jan 27 build, I thought that I would not need an update so soon.

Well that was pretty easy, my update was UPD05004 even though my car was built in Feb 2013...I put it on a USB stick, plugged it in, went to settings and update..pretty easy.
