1987 528e oxygen sensor light

Okay so I replaced my O2 sensor (piece of cake), and now i cant get the O2 sensor light to go off. I,ve been reading other posts about this same issue and am still not having to much luck with solving the problem. some posts say to remove the bulb for the light, some say to remove the lower instrument panel trim locate the mileage counter on the left-hand side of the steering column beneath the instrument panel and depress the reset button, and some say to check the fuse(s) that have to do with that sensor light and replace them. i just need to know what is the best route and please be as detailed in your descriptions as possible and if you have pics to go with descrioptions, or know of anywhere i can google to look at images of what i need to do, or where i need to look please lemme know. for more specific details my 87 528e was manufactured in 10/1986. Please help i need to pass smog inspection...
