Got my 14 yesterday. I hate that holder also. Would not mind removing it.

this is the smart phone cradle. You would need to buy an additional phone-specific adapter to get this to work.

There is a thread about how to remove it. There are some options, so read thoroughly and carefully and follow the links.

I'm a Samsung Galaxy phone user, and have no plans to use an iPhone. I got an old iPhone/touch 3g snap in adaptor on ebay for about 65 bucks, and parked my old iPod touch with 64gigs of music in it. I just leave it in there and forget about it. It syncs via wifi when the car is in my garage. Works good, lasts long time...

I did the same thing, iPod touch 64gb in the console and let it sync over Wifi when parked in the garage. Works great.
