To remap or not to remap

Ive just bought my 330d e93 and whilst i love the torque im not bowled over by the over all grunt.
Im interested in getting the car remapped but as i drive 25000 miles a year it must not affect engine longevity (i want to take this car to at least 170000 miles).
Ive seen claims of increased efficiently and extra oomph but is this just marketing spin?
Also whats the difference between a set up on a rolling road and a blue fin on the driveway jobbie?
