Never had this happen before...share your experience please

I've owned some cars in my lifetime that most...MOST..of the general population would consider nice cars or different cars that they don't always encounter.
I've had 4-5 Alfa Romeos and over 7 BMWs including the previous e85 Z4...but in all my days of driving I've never had this happen...and twice in 3 days.

So with that being said you say..."what happened?"

I work downtown where there are lots of cross walks and I had a nurse walking across in front of my car last Friday and she stopped in the middle of the intersection and looked at my car and then mouthed "beautiful car" and gave me a thumbs up! Made my day!

The next day I'm in my local town in the turn lane off the major road that cuts through our area and a pick-up truck next to me lowers their window and they asked what it was and how gorgeous they thought the car was....another thumbs up.

No point to this story other then to say people really give this car a second look more then anything I've ever owned

Oh---and a kid coming out of a restaurant that my wife and I were leaving said, "Man, is that a Z8?"
I chuckled and said, I wish my man...I wish"

Hope everyone has a drop top kinda day.

I have not had as many "exotic" cars as you have had, but I have had a new 3 series coupe in Montego Blue that I traded in on my current Z4, and can't recall ever having a stranger stop and tell me they liked my car. However, I have had my Z4 for about 9 months and had several occasions when a stranger would just yell out that they liked my car while I was driving down the street. I also work on a military post and have had several of the gate guards make remarks about how much they like it.

Yup, I get stopped at traffic lights, and had some guy stop in the middle of crossing the street and shoot me a thumbs up! The car gets alot of attention everywhere. Its nice that the dealers dont stock many of them down here so when you see one, its kind of a rarity.

I think that's the key...you just don't see them around that much in my part of the country.

It's a rare car for most people.

Never had any crosswalk action in this car....had a bum flip me off and spit at me when I had my 3 series. I do get a lot of parking lot stalkers though(all positive reactions). Everything from little kids to old dudes. That took getting used to.

Yeah, this tends to happen all of the time. A lot of people ask, "What kind of BMW is that?" I've hard other convertibles (soft-tops and a retractable hardtop -- 350Z, 370Z, G37), and I never received any comments about those.

Ah yes, that's one of the pleasures of owning an E89. I never get tired of it.

Happens all the time... And I will never grow tired of it! Never had this level of people staring and commenting nice car, or what model is that? with the E85. Must say I was surprised for a while, now I just accept that it comes with owning an E89...

In the Z4, stuff like that happens to me 1 out of every 3 times I drive the car. In the Corvette, it happens EVERY time I drive it.

Really?! Vettes are so much more commonplace than a Z4. I think part of what makes people look and comment is the relative scarcity. But Vettes are a looker too (just not as good looking!)

Yeah Vettes ARE more commonplace, but not from 1970. Yes, I agree that the E89 is one great looker...one of the main reasons I got it.

Happens to me too, and it surprises me 'cause it's not the most exotic the most expensive of cars around here. I live in Bangkok and there's gazillion of Ferraris and Lambos and Porsches .. Hell, on weekends I often run into other Z4's with the same color and kit. It's why I bought this car I think .. the beautiful proportions and the lines... The last Z4's design was a little too extreme for me, and the new SLK is just so bland (and I'd never be caught dead buying a Merc anyway.)

Interestingly, when I decided to change my Miata 2006 (which also attracted stares and comments) while leaning towards are e89 Z4, I was also considering the 2005- on corvettes; I almost bought the beauty seen here but finally went for 2009 sdrive35; and I love it!Click image for larger version

Yes, I have to give kudos to the WOMEN who designed the current Z4. Yes, guys, the car was mainly designed by the fairer sex and they did a FANTASTIC job!

I just purchased my wife a 2011 35is and on the way home (it was a 400 mile drive) we had tons of stares and several "thumbs up" from all ages. The best was a biker dude on a Harley who passed us, slowed down, and then gave my wife an approval nod...

My favorite story was when I was picking up a heavy item and loading it into my car at Academy, the 18 year old helping me says, "what do you you do for a living, because I want to do that so I can get a car like that."
