4.4 with 4.6 cluster?

I have to replace my cluster soon anyways, and the thought came to my head is it possible to get the 4.6 cluster to function fully? Any one ever do it? Nothing comes up with the search feature.

I'm not sure it's the same gauges. On my 4.8is I have oil temperature in place of MPG.

If you have a 4.4 X5...you don't have an oil temp sensor that could send data to the oil temp gauge...

Sorry to be a downer...but yes, this is definitely a mod that is more difficult to do than a simple swap-in/swap-out.

There has always been e46/e38/e39/e53 owners that have the regular instrument clusters that have longed & tried to install the M & "is"clusters ...very few have gone on to completion due to the difficulty required in getting the correct hardware/software to program the clusters correctly and wire up everything that is required. Some have only gotten part ways there..and again, very few have gotten all the bells & whistles of these M clusters to work.

do a google search or search any BMW forum that would have a model that has these special clusters...and the threads about them will read like the "trail of tears" or "Oregon Trail"...as the mod leaves dead bodies piled up along the path.

Damn I really wanted the cluster, but not really a big deal. Thanks Qsilver, maybe in the near future I'll look into this again.
