Question Calling ALL 09' F01/02 OWNERS... Urgent Help

Ok... So I am at a crossroads here so to speak. I've spent some days behind the wheel of a car I am seriously contemplating (09' 750i LOADED: Sport pkg, Luxury pkg, hud, Camera pkg, & More) In fact, I had the seller locate the specific color/combo and options I wanted! Also the seller encouraged me to take it in and have it checked out. Which I did. Had the following repaired: Drivers illuminated Door Sill - Seat Calibration issue - rear A/C vent replaced - Front A/C fan button replaced - Micro Filter & Air Filter - Oil Change - Crank Case gaskets (I think that's what they said?) - Headlights Adjusted - Drivers Door Arm/Stopper (noisy & clicking).
So all of the above has been resolved. Car has 40.8k miles
Sales price he's wanting $44.5k firm. Original msrp: $95.8k

So my first question to you owners... Is the deal good, bad, or just ok? From my own research I am finding the deal to be good in terms of what is currently available nationwide (mileage & options)! Also I'd like to add this particular color/combo is NOT even available anywhere that I can find! So I am okay adding a $1,500 premium just for having the color/combo I really want!

The car is quite clean inside and out. But only has another 4 months of factory warranty.

What issues have YOU owners experienced and seen on your car?
What issues can I expect? Is there anything specifically I should have repaired prior to warranty expiring?

I am particularly concerned about the 'forced induction' of this car down the road. Or any other major drivetrain issue. BUT according to my adviser and another BMW mechanic friend of mine, the engine has displayed no areas of concern. Truth or False?

Now I have owned 2 e65s and am very familiar with various issues or potential issues that may arise. In fact, I just dropped a couple of grand on a major repair that is common with the e65. I don't wish to do that again!

BUT... My car is owned free and clear! That is always a HUGE plus and peace of mind... Except for the unexpected breakage.

So what say you fellow Festers...

Thank you in advance!

One thing I didn't mention above... I have access to NADA dealer black book and when using those numbers, the deal is less than stellar. But the "market" is showing the car to be fetching more.

Hey Tx, you know where I stand on this particular deal......BuTTTTTTTT I didnt know it was the exact color combo you wanted that is worth the extra 1500. That being said Im not sure how long you keep your cars or the mileage that you put on. personally I think 40k miles is to many especially since the car has no warrty, i would look into seeing if they can extend the warrty for you at maybe a decent price. Personally i have seen many cpo's 09 and 10's at 49k and under with between 20-40k miles. You may have to be leanient on color options though, also taking into account the trade in there giving you on yours I think its an all around fair deal. what issue did you have on yours? My e65 is at 45k miles in order to replace it i personally would be looking for something ideally sub 20k miles. Ps if the car is white it easily adds 1500 to the price.

about miles dont worry at all, I have 60k and no probs. if you truly like the car then get it, any car is not a good finincial investment, always lose money when you sell it and spend some on repairs.
750 is a great car, compering to euro prices, the price what you have been offered is a gift. I bought my one week ago with 60k miles, 2009 750 xdrive Individual for 65k. prices are different here.
Best luck!

Hey Tex! That was my reaction...just OK...when I read your top post. However, I would add that getting the colour/combination you wanted most is definitely worth a premium. As you know, mine was an `11 F01 xDrive and I absolutely loved that car. The only concern I would have is the fact that the car you're interested in is an `09; but then, again, you've had it thoroughly checked out. See if you can drop the seller another $500 for grins. Otherwise, if you're happy with the deal, then go for it!

If I were in the market for this car I would look at the 2010s and newer. Experience has taught me not to buy first model year cars. That's only my opinion, if its in really good shape so be it!

Good luck

My man! I hear you.

So on the mileage... I have averaged aprox: 8,500 the last 3yrs. That's why my 06' 750 is still attractive even to a dealer! The 40k doesn't frighten me that much because heck, I put so few miles on my car. I like the suggestion of asking for a reduced extended warranty.
This car is Mineral White over Saddle Brown fyi.
On my e65 issue: Crank Case vent Valve replaced as well as Timing Cover gasket.

Thanks guys for the quick replies! Nothing like first hand experience from actual owners.

I too was focused in on a 10' to avoid the "first year model" scenario but from extensive research both online and speaking with separate service advisers at different dealers I know and asking them straight up, they said nothing really jumps out as far as 09'. But like ANYTHING, **** could happen.

I always ask people about the miles, if you dont put any miles on the car in 2 yrs it will be considered a low mileage car. My last 2 7's i purchased cpo'd with mid 20k miles on both, in fact 4 yrs later my 750 just hit 45k miles. i think if I went to sell my car now it would sell right away based on the low miles for the yr. I'd like to sell it before 50k miles as thats the sweeet spot to get top $$ for a used bmw. If your plan is like mine to sell the car before the miles are high then 40k miles is a hair much.

Well there are two sides to this deal; the selling price of the F01, and the amount offered for the trade of your E65. Based off what you have said I would say that it is just an ok deal, however at that mileage and price I would start shooting for a CPO or a 2010. I agree that certain color combinations command a premium, and I am always willing to pay more when I find a used car that is as I would have speced from factory.

The point is that you are at a huge advantage right now. There are hundreds of F01's on the market, more and more every day, and the price is continuing to drop. On top of that your car is paid for. I would probably either negotiate the price down a few thousand, negotiate in the price of an extended warranty, or move on. I generally like to have a year left on warranty to get to know the car and have any issues fixed.

Now, if they have offered you an outstanding price on your trade disregard all that. . Sent you a PM as well.

That is a solid pickup for sure. The thing is... I just can't justify or 'value' that extra $10k.
Knowing how cars depreciate as well as I and all of us do. And the car you posted actually has 4k more miles! Even though it is newer and has slightly more options, I would still choose the car I'm contemplating over that particular one.

I typed in your specs to Auto-trader with the white color/brown interior. It has three results, not sure how much of a help it would be. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...rch=true&Log=0

In all honesty, avoid the 2009 models. They are the first year models and have the most issues. But there are some big points about the F01/02 you should know.

1. It uses the same transmission on as the E65/66 (6HP from ZF).
2. It has more power and I doubt anything has been done to reinforce the transmission.
3. The injectors are a common concern/failure point as I've seen here
4. The forced induction does make it slightly more prone to problems. Some folks here are burning though a bit of oil which concerns me about the secondary air systems and the valve stem seals down the road.

My personal opinion, get an extended warranty on the newer ones, it'll pay for itself as mine has countless times over.

Per my dealer, the injectors and coil problem was never fixed until the 2013 LCI model.

But just make sure you get one with warranty or extended warranty. If my car didn't have warranty, that would be over 10K repairs in a short 11 months and 7000 miles of driving.

Interesting. Definitely I'd say that car was a lemon. After scouring the web, I just don't see many complaints from owners of the 09' or any F01/02. Alas... I may have to just sleep on it one more day....

Average deal at best I would say. Have an '09 and have had good luck with it. I would say $40K would be a good deal.

I have an 09 that was a lemon buy back. It was bought back for the right side camera. I was skeptical but with the buy back, it comes CPO certified to 100k and also has the maintenance warranty to 100k through bmw as well. I got it for a few thousand than the other car I was thinking about with similar miles but not my ideal color. The one I got was the exact color combo (black nappa and mineral white), and I could only find 2 or 3 in the nation for sale with lower miles. The warranty is key above all. I have had zero issues with my 09, but would have never bought it if it was not for the warranty. I believe just off looking at this site alone, there are more pricey repairs than the E66 had. So to sum up, get a warranty and the rest will be easy with the amount of miles you drive...

After having my '12 lemoned I HIGHLY agree with this. ~7-800 miles and a cylinder coil had to be replaced, after that they replaced an 02 sensor, after that an engine control module, and the fourth time it threw the same error, which was the nail in the coffin for that car.

I'm not saying don't buy a current body style 7er, just don't buy one with no warranty.

One thing I've noticed which I'm not sure if its due to the engine difference, but my '12 ran about 25-30F hotter than my '13 does. Do the V8s run cooler than the I6s? Is it because of the MSport fascia maybe more airflow?

Good luck!
Chris

Also keep in mind a truly loaded 09 750i came in around 105K MSRP. Your seems nicely equipped, but not loaded.

These can be had at manheim auction for $36k. $45k is nowhere near a deal. I would recommend using an auction broker if you know one, or you can try this guy (expect to pay $2500 above purchase price, including commission, fees, and transport):

Make sure your car is still under warranty, so you can get repairs if needed, and have the option of buying an extended warranty.

Good luck!

No, I think they change it in 2013. My old 7 always run at close to 250, but now my new 7 is a little over 225. I think the stop/start also plays part of this.
