Is the F10 a "mommy car"?

I was talking to two male coworkers over coffee this morning and the topic of cars came up since one of them is looking to buy. I mentioned the F10, to which one of them replied "my wife already has a car, this is for me." The other chimed in "yeah, that's a mommy car".

Granted, these fellas were a bit younger than me, but is this typically how the 20s-30s crowd think about the 5 series now?

All the guys love my car. I've never had a comment. In fact, people have commented how aggressive mine looks. Depends on the package, rims and color. I purposely made mine look aggressive.

I'm in my mid 20s and I don't think of the F10 as a mommy's car and none of my friends my age thought so when they looked at my car. Then again I made it look more aggressive than it already is.

I came from an E-Class and I got a lot more "Old person" "Housewife" comments toward that car, which were still even slight since mine was decked out pretty aggressively as well and my friends just saw it as an expensive luxury car.

My F10 I've gotten nothing of the "old/mommy" sort. Most people who comment on this car are young and they all seem to think it's "cool", "sexy", or whatever similar words they've used to describe it.

IMO the F10 is one of the rare Sedans that doesn't get the "Mommy" schtick as much, as it has respected performance roots and such. Of course, like any Sedan however, especially Luxury Sedan, technically speaking tons of "Mommy's" do drive the car. Just thank BMW for giving us enthusiast the ability to pay up for the M Sport enthusiasts package, as with my E-Class I had no choice but to get the same exterior look as all the "Mommy's" and such. Rest assured I'm sure your friends will fawn over a well packaged F10 like most of ours' do.

I'll bet one of them drives a Mustang, and the other a Camaro.

Speaking of the latter; what's the opinion in US about the 2013 Camaro?

I must say I was tempted to get one, if only for the V8 growl I cannot afford in an F10...

I see many women (older) driving non-M sport 528's.

All the 535 and 550 M sport cars are driven by men.

M sport pkg is the key difference.

I'm 17 and I drive an F10...anyone who makes a comment like that is obviously jealous and can't afford it or too immature to appreciate luxury cars; simple as that.

I don't believe that the F10 portraits the Mommy car look. The station wagon (F11) maybe, but not the F10.

I am assuming your coworkers aren't real car guys.

A Lexus RX350 is a "mommy's car". The F10 couldn't be anymore the opposite of that in terms of looks. I love walking up to the front of my car and it looks like its already moving 100mph with its nice aggressive lines. (Msport)

Ironic you ask. I have a '13 M-Sport and my wife says it's a guy car. We're buying her a '13 Camaro in a few weeks.

Not so much "Mommy car" as business executive. When my sister first saw my E60 she said with real surprise "Wow, it looks so sporty". She had the picture of a 5-series as an old man's car. When I got my F10 she said "oh, so you finally got an old man's car" with a wink in her eye. I think it's more the segment as such than the specific designs. It often takes an "old man" to pay for these things and the comfort level they offer are connected to a old bodies need of comfort. That said, around here it looks like the majority of F10s I pass are driven by middle age women. None looks like alanL's though

lol thx.

What i notice around where I live is that with non sports/Msport F10 theres a good mix between male and female drivers. Sport and Msport are all driven by men for the most part. Most of them are also Alpine White too.

Well, in Houston dinner time is 5pm and everything closes by 9pm...maybe anything that is not a pickup truck is considered mommys car?

I don't know what they currently drive but both the mustang and camaro were discussed as potential buys.

I was surprised with their comments about the F10, hence why I posed the question here. I agree with the other posters that the F10 is not a mommy car. Old man's car, perhaps.

Downtown houston shuts down at 6pm, but there's nightlife to be had in other parts of town. Washington Ave and midtown do pretty well most nights of the week.

Funny you mentioned pickup trucks. They are fairly popular among housewives here.

Was going to say the same thing.

Downtown is definitely a commuter city, but other parts get and stay pretty rowdy. The burbs are rocking all night.

And yes, I would say at least 1/2 the pickups I see are driven by housewives.

How's the woodlands treating you? I haven't been up there in ages. I hear market street is fun?

Did we ever get anywhere with the H-town meet up?

Not on the weekends and you enjoy some fine arts:

The Houston Theater district, with 12,948 seats for live performances and 1,580 movie seats, ranks second in the United States for the number of theater seats in a concentrated downtown area, and is one of only five cities with permanent professional resident companies in all of the major performing arts disciplines: the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Ballet, and The Alley Theatre.

OP, you should ask them what 'ghetto' or 'ricer' car are they driving ? they are simply jealous of the F10 owners.
