Spark plug analysis

Hey guys,
Did my plugs yesterday, and they all came out looking very dark. All 6 are identical. Car just hit 60k miles. Is this normal?

Not fer nuthin, but have you checked your intake valves for coking? You engine at the miles this should be done.

I thought that only affected N54s due to direct injection?

No, it is not normal, but not that bad either. Did you do some cold driving, or short trips prior to changing the plugs? The amount of carbon indicates a rich running condition but that may have been commanded by the ECU/PCM if the engine wasn't up to temperature.
Run your new plugs down a highway and drive straight home, cool down and pull one plug. See if it is just as dark before going further. Let us know.

Y'know, I really have to keep those optometrist appointments. Really.
