Dealer offered upgrade on my 2011 BMW

They offered me to upgrade my vehicle to a new vehicle (same class) with lower monthly payments and no money down. This means that it'll extend the number of payments in order to compensate for the price difference and I'll be paying more interest which I understand

What else can they do to screw me?

If you don't know and understand all the details of the transaction the ways to screw you are virtually endless. One thing is certain. They didn't make this offer out of the goodness of their heart. They did it because they will make money on it. If all you're focused on is the monthly payment you can count on getting taken advantage of. And that's all on you.

Thanks, I'm a little curious to see what they offer. I wasn't planning on upgrading my car but it'd be interesting to see how the numbers work out (of course in their favor).

What is the difference between what they are going to pay you for your 2011 and what you currently owe on it? That's your "down payment."

I get these things in the mail regularly, usually from the Ford dealer in town. "Your vehicle is in high demand! We'll give you $29,000 for your 2011 BMW 328xi and upgrade to the new Ford you want!" It's like, uhh, I have nothing against Fords, but there isn't a single one I'd rather have over my 328.

This bears so much truth it's worth repeating verbatim. The truth is in the details of the deal. Payments x Time = Total Cost.

I can put you in any car you want for the same payment as you're making today -- but you might still be making payments fifteen years from now.

See what the details are
1) Do you own or lease your car. If you own what are they giving you. If you lease, are they taking care of the remaining payments, penalties, etc
2) What is the interest rate (loan) or MF rate (lease)
3) What is the price above options
4) Don't forget to include factory rebates and loyalty rebates - which can potentially bring the cost of the car below invoice. Make sure they don't use those factory rebates as ways to lower your payments, but not bring you below invoice.
5) What are they charging on Doc fees, Bank Fee (base is 725 from BMW), tags/title/reg, etc

Get all the details, come back, let us know

So much dealer hate on this forum. Of course the dealer is looking to make money on this transaction. That's what they do. That's why they exist. That doesn't mean they're trying to screw anyone.

With that said if you feel they're trying to screw you why are you even discussing this offer? Place it in the round file and forget about it.

I do not see any "screw" here. I see an offer.

Take it or leave it. Simple. Next!

BMW is in the business to sell/lease brand new cars to make a profit, period.

Do you have one of those 27 mo. leases like me? Allegedly, theres an ongoing promo where BMW will pay the last three months of your lease to put you into a new car, but the lease term is at least 36 mos.

Lots of hate on the forums because people have worked with one too many car salesman and seen how they will lie to get what they want. They will hide fees, they will lie about their product, they will try to guilt you. Hell, the last sales person I spoke to tried to get me to promise him - at the start of the conversation - that no matter what I do, I buy a car only from him. I mean, come on. Then I told him I wanted invoice +500. He said he could only do invoice +1000. When I got to my car and looked at the price he quoted me...it was ED MSRP + 1000, not ED Invoice +1000.

So when people come on the forum and asking what other parts of the "screw" should they keep an eye out for, it's not unwarranted.

Unfortunately I've experienced more bad then good when it comes to car sales men. They have a bad rap for a reason.

If you know you're being screwed then why even entertain the offer in the first place? Round file it and move on.

I've had just the opposite experience. I'd have to say of all the vehicles I've purchased in the past five years I've only had one negative experience with a dealer. And they were one of those "Buy here, Pay here" types of places.
