Thinking of doing a few custom features - Sporty/Classy not ghetto...

Hey all so I have the barbera Red color with the sport package which comes with the black trim around windows and 20" sport rims. I stopped by a shop specializing in customizing luxury cars. We went out and walked around the cars and I am considering doing the following. I cannot stress how much I dont want it to look ghetto! I would rather keep it stock in that case...

powder coat 20" sport bmw rims. $100 per rim. or Black chrome.

20% or 15% window tint - $175

Kidney grille replaced with black version $200-550

Black emblems or black chrome.

BMW logo blue replaced with black.

Not sure about this one but smoked tail lights?

Do you think it would look classy / sporty or just ghetto?

Silver compliments that color red, black doesn't. If it were mine I would get the tint 20% and throw on some 22" silver/machined or hypersilver rims (no chrome). You car is new enough that tinting the tail lights would make it look worse. Its OK on new white or all black cars, and older cars. With newer cars, (non sport and not planning to paint it) less is more!

Thanks for the response! I agree completely with not tinting tail lights. The guy mentioned that and i didnt think it would look very good.

Edited my above post. Im surprised he didnt steer you clear of the black rims. I have always wanted to own a high end car shop that does exactly what you asked. Figures out what would look good on your car for you.

Easiest way I can explain it is, if the car is a dark color, your secondary color should be lighter. If your car is a light color, your secondary color should be darker. They need to offset each other. Other wise you might as well murder out the entire thing...

The 3 series can get away with it because its a sports car. I look at it and think JDM though. 7 you should keep with the Euro styling. Dont forget tint on the front windshield as well. (Please excuse the dirt. Its my daily driver. No that is not me in the background)

Your area? pretty cheap. Maybe $200-$300. Mine was closer to $500 but car stuff is crazy $$ where I live. Tint is considered a luxury LOL That and my tint color was rare. Cali and places like that its super cheap ($150)

I dont know what your budget is. But you can checkout rims on www.elementwheels.com If you find one you like always remember to google it to get real world photos of it on the car. Ive seen some pretty sick rim designs ended up looking like crap whens its on a car.

If you look at my car, I did windows, grille, and tail lights. I agree with some of the folks above. I think my tail lights look good because they match my body color. Black. The purpose of doing the tail lights is to make them disappear into the body color. You could look at matching your lenses to your body color, because it's darker in color.

I really like the black and white with blacked out lights etc. I think I am going to leave the lenses as is and just focus on getting my windows tinted first and then going from there.

I think you should buy TXStyle's Vossens, lower it and call it a day. You have a very nice OEM wheel and color combo btw, I think your car would look great lowered on OEMs too.

It's already lowered with the sport package. And to be honest man, I wouldn't do a thing to yours. It looks great the way it is. Just tint! Because Vegas summers suck

I would tint your car all around 20%, it's dark enough to provide privacy and still show off your interior. Keep your sports wheel as is and use that money to lower your car if you don't want to go with a larger size wheel. Do not change the emblems or tint your tailights. I would go with 21inch bmw wheels or a nice 3pc polished 22inch wheel with a lip.

Not true bro. I have the sports package and when I lowered my car on H&r springs it sat lower. Now that I'm on coilovers my car sits even lower. :-)

The only reason I didn't say that earlier was because I think TX's vossen would look off on that color car. Just my opinion though.

I think he meant lower than stock. But yea I was thinking of getting Eibach or H&R's. How hard is the ride compaired to stock?

No on tinted taillight and no on black chrome wheels. I would personally go either gloss or matte black on the wheels. I think if done right, the car will turn out nice. Looks like my car in dark lighting. Lol

You should make it look like that 3 series. It would mean and very sporty looking. 20% tints, black glossy rims, black grill, tinted tail lights and this emblems. I think it would turn out awesome. I say the car does not make the rims, the rims make the car. So make sure you choose the right rims for that look. maybe some thing like this. Mean, clean and simple to maintain.

Yes you are right. He did mean lower than stock. Sorry Suri!

I'm on kw coilovers now but when I lowered the car with just springs and added spacers on my previous MRR wheels the car sat and looked beautiful! Driving in high speeds and cornering was more comfortable and felt easier. Ride quality was affected but I think that was more due to my low profile tires and larger diameter wheels. I've been driving a 2009 750i for about a month now and it's bone stock with a sports package and it feels sooo good to drive carelessly without having to worry about watching the road ahead for potholes! Car is super fast as well!

Thanks everyone for you're opinions! I know for sure I am taking care of the tint as soon as possible. I don't think I am going to lower it anymore than the 1" the sport package already lowered it.

I agree with the 20% now, I just need to see about if I will change rims to Black or leave as is.

Thanks Suri, I like the look of you're 7 with the chrome rims and tint. If the car looks good with tint then I might leave it at that. I just wish my rims were chrome.
