brake linings

Good Morning,

My baby Sterling is a black 93 525I,I am constantly getting a reading on the dash saying "Brake Linings'....is that the same as brake pads or shoes....?

Yes, the linings are the wear material on the pads or shoes. Sometimes this is just a bad lining sensor, there is one at each wheel. If you have enough material left on the pads look for a broken sensor wire. If the sensors are working correctly, the car is telling you it is time for new pads.

Don't do what my mechanic did. He cut the sensors off and I had a brake light on until the end.

Also know that, if it is actually a condition of pad wear where the sensor has contacted the rotor due to the wear, then you HAVE to replace the sensor to get rid of the message. They are not very expensive though.

I also have the "Brake Linings" read out on my dash. On my car it is because someone did not use a set of pads with the sensor or the sensor attachment for the pads. Not a big deal.

if this annoys you, all you need to do is short the wires in your gaurds together and it will disappear

My brakes locked up yesterday. Need new rotors, sensors and pads in the rear. I am definitely becoming a preferred customer with my service shop.
