Should I trust a CPO that was in NJ during Hurricane Sandy?

I'm considering purchasing a CPO 2011 e90 328i. The only problem is the Carfax says it's from the east coast and was in NJ up until late Dec 2012.

The question is, even though it's CPO, can I trust that it doesn't have any lurking flood or salt damage due to hurricane Sandy?

Here's the report http://tinyurl.com/d3pql4r

Thanks

You need to do a PPI by an indie but in general this statement is valid.

"One way to avoid flood-damaged cars when buying a used car is to consider certified pre-owned. These are used cars, trucks and SUVs that have been certified by a new car dealer to standards set by automobile manufacturers. Sure, a dealer could certify a used car with flood damage as being certified pre-owned, but there are protections offered by the manufacturer."

IF it's CPO from BMW, then it probably has nothing wrong with it.

On the other hand, I will never trust a Carfax ever again in my life time. Bought the wife's 328i from an Audi dealership. I looked it over and couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Went to trade it in and found that 1.5 years after we bought it, an accident 2.5 years after the incident it shows up on the Carfax. Oh btw... if you don't register for the Carfax service with in 90 days of purchasing the vehicle, the Carfax is null and void.

Nothing wrong major with the car. The guy just hit a cap off a tractor trailer and busted up the lower grill area. They replaced the whole nose of the car.

Thanks greyfox, that's a nice heads up. I'm noticing an awful lot of used and CPO originating from the east coast.

Making me nervous about spending 30k on a 3 year old car.

One other thing... notice where Ramsey NJ is? It's actually north of New York City.....

The BMW dealer can and should read the key fob for you and give you the detailed service records on the car that have been performed at any BMW dealership.

If they are CPOing the car you should be OK.

The NJ / NY / NE coast areas of the country are obviously affluent with lots of BMWs on the road and many if not most leased so not surprising that's where you see many coming from off lease after 2 or 3 years.

The one thing I would look at is the wheel hat the tire was replaced. Make sure the rim isnt bent at all.

It was CPO'd in Feb 2013, last serviced in 12/12.

I'm going to test drive it this week and I'll check the items everyone has suggested so far (tires, rims, etc...).

It's a 2011 with 39k miles being offered for 29k.

I've never owned a BMW before, and I'd like to make the most of my test drive. Any tips for the uninitiated? Specifically are there any things that would immediately disqualify the car ? ( other that the obvious pulling, rattles, etc...)

Is this a bmw dealer? Are they giving it the standard BMW CPO through the standard CPO process?

If yes then it's probably OK.

As always caveat emptor.

@3ismagic. It's a BMW dealer and it is a CPO.

So I took it for a ride and its amazing.

We went back to talk numbers and they wouldn't budge a single dime on the price. The cars been on their lot for 34 days. The sales manager had the nerve to tell me that if it stays on the lot until April it will most likely INCREASE in price, so I should but now.

So frustrating.

Ha, no doubt.

So, I'll offer it up to the community.

It's a 2011 328i xDrive CPO, 39K miles, deep sea blue over saddle ( premium package, moonroof, nav, heated seats/wheel)

They're asking $29,991 and won't budge a dime.

Here what i see as issues with the car.
  • High miles for a 2011
  • over 30 days on their lot
  • Was in NJ during hurricane Sandy ( maybe not a real issue, but makes me nervous)

What do you guys think?

I purchased a 2011 335 xDrive M-Sport from NJ last month and I was a little nervous about the flood issue as well. I had the dealer confirm in writing (email) that the car had sustained any water damage and had not been immersed in water as a result of hurricane Sandy. If you are really worried about this, get the car checked out at another dealership before signing on the dotted line.

My approach to the negotiations was to shop the comparable cars in the area and use that information to negotiate the best deal I could. I found negotiating over email was easier than doing it in person.

I paid $36000 (without CPO) for a 335 Xdrive M-Sport (Nav, HK, Premium Pkg) . with 10K miles on the odometer. The original asking was $39999 CPO.

So not that it will do much, but I wrote an email expressing my concern over how I was treated. I made it clear that the salesman that I was dealing was terrific, however the used car sales manager was completely ridiculous.

I expect nothing will come of it, at best an email response but I feel better or having sent it.

When you filter it down to deep blue and saddle interior, there's not that many. Like only 1. I'm not sweating it. My car will find me.
