A piller trim pieces

My son's '09 X3 has some trim pieces on the A-pillers...one on each side of the windshield. These trim pieces are about 20 inches long, body colored, and appear to perform some functional role in re. holding rubber seals in place.

The problem is these trim pieces easily come loose; in fact, one fell off and had to be replaced.

Can/should these pieces be glued on with a high quality silicone adhesive?

More than that, there is an air bag in there. No glue!

The clips must need replacing, or were not installed properly.

Be very careful messing around with them

If you set the airbag mentioned above off, you got a big $$$$ job then. Check on realoem and see how it attaches or better yet, drop by your dealer and ask them.

A-piller clarification

Sorry...I wasn't clear.

The trim pieces are on the exterior of the A-piller, not on the inside of the car.

Oh, I see. Don't know about them. (My early model has black ones - I imagine they went to body-color later, but still plastic.)

Was the windshield ever replaced? - I think one forum member a long time ago had that problem after new glass was fitted.
