F10 beautiful gauge cluster will probably be replaced in 2014 LCI

This line from the BMW press release about 2014 6-series caught my eye:

"Additionally, the BMW 6 Series Convertible Frozen Brilliant White Edition will mark the US-debut of BMW's new Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster, which allows the "personality" and presentation of the car's instrumentation to change substantially with each of the various BMW Driving Dynamics Control modes."

I love the modern yet classy (semi) analogue clusters of current F10 (so much so that I turn off HUD once in a while ). Sadly, it looks like they are most certainly going to be replaced in MY 2014.

I'm glad it's finally coming. I hope they bring this to ///M cars before I place my M6 GC order.

The traditional cluster (6WA) will probably continue to be offered, leaving 6WB as an option or part of a package like Executive or Driver Assistance. For these special edition 6 Series it probably makes sense since they're already charging a premium. For other cars, I'm not so sure except perhaps the 7 Series.

In Europe 6WB is an option.

I always thought that the gauge cluster is the weakest part of the BMW design.

Don't bet on it. Certainly not standard.

I'd rather they spend the development dollars getting rid of the driveability problems with the car rather than act like they are not real. I guess they figure the dash will sell more cars than fixing what needs fixing.

Maybe I'm old school but I still like the analog cluster. I prefer the black panel cluster over the new all digital one, I think they should leave that for Honda's and Kia's, it certainly looks better on them. I understand that BMW is trying to attract all types of costumers but I think that they're losing their heritage in the process. Hopefully this will offer only as an option.

Just my 2 cents.

The 6WB can already be retrofitted in the F10 and other BMWs.
Just so you know

I love the classic BMW speedo and would really hate to see BMW abandon it for a generic and probably passing fad of "video game tech" which will be played and played then played out, and of course hellaciously dated in the future as is the nature of technology.

The Black Panel Display is the perfect balance, IMO. Classic and un-duplicatable (by others) BMW heritage that harkens memories, mechanical timeless elegance and function (big beautiful MPH and RPM displays which is BMW sending you a message as to what is important to them), and then the tech side of it in which it's actually a digital display.... which is so sharp and incredibly crisp it looks realer than the real thing (and looks awesome when it's off then comes on).

BTW, how will they have it set up going forward then? Will you have the true-analog, then the Black Panel, THEN the new-digital, or will the new digital replace Black Panel.... or will Black Panel become the new "standard" replacing the true-analog?

+1. I love the black panel display, too. Specially its soft warm glow at night. That's one of the reason I did not wait for LCI - I was afraid classic BMW gauges will no longer be offered in post-LCI F10.

I too like the current gauges from looking at photos of the new 6WB. However, I can't make a final judgement until seeing it in person.
