E90 run flats - Australia

Hi guys

Recently bought a 2007 E90 and loving it, EXCEPT for one issue.

Due to the front tires not being road worthy, the dealer replaced it with some cheap brand less ordinary tires.

Now from having 4x run flat tires, I now have 2 run flats and 2 non run flats.

He argues that not all E90 have run flats and therefore not required to replace them.

I am quite certain that all E90 comes standard with run flats.

Any where I can find this info to support my argument?

Cheers

Having two radically different types of tires on the car can be dangerous as the inconsistent handling characteristics of RFTs and Go-Flats (due to sidewall construction especially) could cause a major accident. Your dealer should rectify the situation ASAP by fitting the proper rear OEM RFT tires. Until then, be very, very careful when driving at speeds over 30 mph or in inclement weather.

And to answer your question, all E90 models in the US came only with RFTs as standard equipment. They may be replaced by non RFTs - but only on all four wheels for the safety reasons indicated above.

Thanks Tom.

That was my argument as well.

However this dealer is being plain stubborn and demands for something more official to state that all Australian E90 comes with RFT as standard.

I tried searching for any documentation that contains this info, no luck so far

They all come with run flats unless specifically ordered without them. The dealer is giving you the run around because he probably doesn't want to fork out for the expensive run flats. I would make a formal complaint against him. Call another dealership and ask them if all e90's came with run flats.

On wikipedia:
The E90 also introduced run-flat tires to the 3 Series range. Consequently, cars with run-flats are not equipped with a spare tire. While these theoretically improve performance and handling, run-flats sometimes cost more to replace and can give a harsher ride.

They are probably standard on every e90 world wide. Ask the dealer why you don't have a place for a spare or a some sort of emergency kit.
