E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

No manual or DSG for US, no thanks. Looks nice though. Hope we get the 5door S3 as well.

I'm currently happy with my E90 335i. I recently had a new F30 (base line) as a rental and was not impressed. I'm sure Sport Line would've been nicer, but the bottom line is that car has just grown too big. So, for my replacement in a couple year, I was planning on looking at a new 2-series. But this new S3 definitely has my attention. I've always been a fan of manual and have never owned anything but. But my ex-wife has an A3 (bought it for her a few years ago, she kept it in divorce), and I used to drive it all the time. The DSG was quite good and I was far from bored driving that car.

Same here- have an e92 335i but not impressed with f30 (size, steering, design, inteiror quality). My lease is up next April so my choices will be 2 series coupe or A3 sedan.

Where'd you read that? What does it have then, an 8 speed automatic?

6 speed S-tronic, which is the slushbox, right?

Talking with Audi experts at this little get-together and shoving some numbers around, the (technically speaking) 2015 Audi S3 sedan should start at right near $39,000. US S3 sedans come standard with a sunroof, 18-inch wheels, full leather, Sirius satellite radio, the three-spoke sport steering wheel with shift paddles for the also-standard six-speed S-tronic, and fully automated adjustable sport seats. Unfortunately, no six-speed manual shifting will be offered.

Apparently s-tronic is Audi-speak for DSG. Thought all their DSGs were 7 speed, but guess not:

Yes, the article on the regular A3 sedan mentions that also, thanks, that's good, I could live with DSG.

Autoblog says the US A3 gets 3 engines and arrives as a 2015 model.

2.0-liter TDI offering 150-horsepower and 236-pound-feet of torque, a 1.4-liter, 140-hp and 184-lb-ft TFSI, and a 1.8-liter, 180-hp and 184-lf-ft TFSI.

Interesting... It's pretty clear that BMW is going to offer a 228- wonder why they opted against offering the 2.0T as an option. Then again, i bet this car turns out to be lighter than the 228

Actually, according to this page, the S3 will have the 2.0TFSI... the engine range listed was for the A3.

I am very interested in checking this car out... I love my 1'er and the F30 is almost too big for my tastes (closer to E39 than E90). Although the A3/S3 is a small car, the four doors ought to help offset that a little bit for practicality. Going to be interesting to compare the 2'er with the A3/S3 next year when my lease is expiring

Looks great on the outside (S3)...interior, yuck. Hate the pop-up Nav and the round vents. Guess I'll have to stay M2 or M4 in 2015.

Those two center vents are referred to in the Audi documentation as boob vents.

The center console is kinda weird . The area down by the gear shifter looks great. However, the boob vents are weird looking and the whole thing looks asymmetrical.
The exterior is pretty nice looking.

Nice that they are keeping the sport back though perhaps only in hybrid form?

Why is it going to take a year for it to get here?

audi DSG is 6 speed on the FWD transverse platforms (TT, golf, A3, etc) and 7 speed on the longitudinal aka real audis platforms, (S4/S5 etc)

i think they call their 8 speed auto tiptronic.
