Buying new beemer, did my research, need some guidance.

Well as this is my first post, I'll first introduce myself. I'm 20, in the military, and attend college full time. I know of an independent foreign auto garage in my area willing to take a look at these cars, but often the cars are too far away so i'll need your help mostly on pricing.

I recently totaled my 2012 jetta 2.5 SE (hated the car anyways) in a head on collision (she was texting.) So I am in the price range of about $13.5k and will have money saved for repairs if needed.

So here are the choices in no order.
1. 2007 328xi, with 96,225 miles, black with beige interior, automatic trans for $14,000.

2. 2006 325i, with 105,000 miles, black with beige interior, manual trans for $12,900.

3. 2006 325xi, with 63,000 miles, black with black interior, automatic trans with navy for $16,000.

So my first choice would be option 3 but its a bit out of my price range, and its the only car out of the three sold by a person not a used car dealer.

Questions for you: Are the prices for options 1 and 2 before taxes+fees? If so, consider those prices to increase based on taxes and fees. Knowing this will give you a better picture of what you'll end up paying out of pocket.

Also, is $16,000 the rock bottom price for option 3? You might be able to negotiate a lower price which will help you out financially. Ask the seller for the VIN so you can look up service records done at a BMW dealership.

Personally, I'd go with option 3, if financially possible. The mileage is substantially lower, and it's an "XI" which I believe is what you're looking for based on your car options.

Good luck!

Option 3, followed by 1. The price is a little high and I would negotiate. Are you buying private or from car place? If car place is it BMW or non-bmw? Come with any kind of warranty?

For the 325xi...I'd say 11k I just sold my 330xi with auto, prem, HK for 12,500. Same here, and similar miles (mine had 75k).

I don't think any warranty will apply for 6-7 year old cars except whatever might apply for a dealer to CYA (more precisely C Their A) to push the car off their lot, unless it's from one of those "warranty direct" contracts with a bunch of hoopla-boopla around it.

As long as it is from a reputable company, any kind of third party warranty is better then none. Also, some dealerships will give a 30 days warranty that they will fix problems that occur within their garage. It's better then nothing. Otherwise, why buy from a dealership over private if not for warranty or better service?

Thanks guy for the responses, I'd agree option 3 is what i'm leaning towards im going to try to have him drop it substantially but without offending him.

At that mileage (but more so in a few miles), and while the 330 is a great model, expect to start to see a lot of things need changing, like fluids, water pump (possibly)/thermostat, etc. Something to keep in mind. Save some cash and use it for maintenance that will be sure to creep up very soon.
