M Sport spoiled me

My brand new dreamboat is in the the shop because Sunset Hand Car Wash in West Hollywood gouged it with two 2" nicks on it inaugural cleaning. So Hertz put me in this Camero convertible and all I can say is my M sport has spoiled me! The Chevy has some of the same bells and whistles, HUD, PDC/Backup camera, etc, but BMW implements them so much better... Bitmaps fonts on the HUD, no grids or zones with the cam, confusing menus. But the biggest difference is handling and performance. M Sport runs rings around the Camero. Can't wait to get my Bimmer back.

Omg noooooooo! That sucks man.

But the bright side with things like this is that you start to appreciate your car even more. When you get it back, it'll be like getting a present

Ouch man - thats terrible. At least they are taking care of it for you (I assume?). This is exactly why no one will ever wash my car but me.

Thank you all for your support! Workers swab the car's wheels with squeegees on poles. Guessing that's how it happened. There was no damage when checker inspected it and he informed his manager it was "clean". As week progressed car wash began backpedaling so I turned it over to my insurance company... $1K damage! Interestingly, if it was a motorized car wash State Farm would've deemed it a collision even though I was nowhere near the car. That would trigger my deductible and could possibly affect rates. Because it was a hand car wash however the damage was deemed human error and that qualifies this as a comprehensive claim. So no deductible, no impact on future rates. Live and learn.

That's a nasty nick.

What is a "Camero"?

I do agree. When I take my car into service sometimes dealers are out of loaners so they have various cars I. Their fleet but not BMW.

If they offered like non BMW I would be insulted. That's just me, no offense

It's funny. Every car is so different to me and I've been spoiled.

I recently drove a 50k mile Mini Cooper S (2010) 6-speed manual. So little power and didn't care for it's driving position or much else. Didn't like it as a D.D.

My 535xit is a total boat/cruiser. Not really fun to drive aggressively at all, so heavy, so ungainly. But just awesome on the highway and loaded up. And alot better than SUVs.

I absolutely loved the f30 328i 6-speed sport line I test drove....except the power delivery was just so not-exciting. The ride, handling, steering, comfort, noise, seating position....everything else was excellent.

...

The rental Camaro you got was probably a "$24k" MSRP car that is really $20k, compared to a $40-50k 3-series. I certaintly hope you like your 3-series more

Actually, with the Op stating it was a convertible and with options, I bet it was a $30-33k car. Coupes start at about $23-24k, but drop tops are $28k+.

Ugh, a convertible camaro. Louder, creakier, heavier, slower....that don't help much

I didn't say it well, but I meant the base price of the car. The OPs 3-series may have been a $55k model for all I know, but the 3-series is at heart a $40k car optioned up from there. The camaro is at heart a $20k car with varying degrees of engines worth alot more.

Gotcha, totally agree.

Most performance cars seem to show their bargain basement roots. $23k Mustang to $64k Shelby...$48k C6 to $115k ZR1...$16k Lancer to $36k Evo X etc etc.

Are you trying to bring BJ into the discussion?

The pseudo aluminum trim is cut at a weird angle that makes you feel crooked when parked parallel. LOL, the Camaro convertible is a real land yacht! Makes me appreciate my Bimmer more.

The 3 Series is, at heart, a $50,000 German luxury car that is revered as a status symbol.

To compete with the likes of re-badge brands like Audi, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, and Cadillac, they allow people to decompose the car down to a $30,000 stripper that's low on performance and above average on comfort. BMW doesn't set out to build a car with a weak engine, soft suspension, and dim headlights. That's not their purpose, not their mission, not their reputation. Unlike Mercedes Benz, BMW doesn't have a CL-A equivalent, so they let the college kids and empty-nesters strip a 328i bare.

"Camaro" has no place being discussed in a BMW forum.

BJ

Yep. That's thing about Mustangs and Camaros... Every time I think I really like them, I immediately regurgitate my food as soon as I sit inside of one... Cheap domestic cars.

Dodge Charger RT/MAX is really nice though.

This Camaro is loaded with options but terribly spongy and underpowered. Have refrained from further comparisons because I agree with your last statement. Tech like HUD, NAV, telemetry, and telephony are ubiquitous today. What became evident to me is how much better BMW's implementation is than another maker out to hit the same marks.

If it makes you feel any better this happened to me 5 days after I took delivery. Had driven the car a grand total of 5 times and 50 miles. Other driver was found 100% at fault.
