E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

Dirt Inside Headlight

Hello All..

I am posting this for my mother. She has a 128 Convertible, with standard headlight. We noticed the other day that there appears to be dirt inside the headlight. At first it looked like dirt on the lens, but we grabbed a wet cloth and cleaned the outside. We then realized it was on the inside of the plastic lens.

Anyone else have this ?

A follow up on this. My mom finally took the car in for a recall with a battery wire. So she had them check out the headlights. After a bit of arguing, they agreed to replace both headlights. They went as far to pull up a brand new 1 series to put side by side, and finally agreed that there is dirt on the interior of the lens.

The issue would seem to not be the dirt but the fact that it got in. The headlights have what appears to be a well designed housing with a gasketed cover you remove to replace a bulp when the time comes. It should be tightly sealed but apparently wasn't. It wouldn't be terribly hard to remove the cover and clean out the housing but how often would you have to do it and what else will get in? I'm glad they replaced them, i think it was the right thing to do.
