2012 335i: Be Kind to Newbie Month...

Since I just picked up a new 2012 335i coupe M-Sport last night, I declare the next 30 days as "Be Kind to Newbie Month."

Space grey with black leather, all options except comfort access. Had some VPC additions to it like performance exhaust, carbon fiber front lip, rear spoiler and mirror covers, suede-like cover over the steering wheel spokes. Super nice ride. Not as fast as the C63 I just sold but I was looking for a little tamer freeway cruiser (and a few more MPG) anyhow.

Car came with Style 230 Star Spoke 19" wheels. I might be willing to trade them for a set of Style 313 Double Spoke 18" or Style 193 Star Spoke 18" if anyone would be interested.

Welcome surfcity, sweet ride! But shouldn't it be a woodie with roof racks?

Dude...we're from CA...like... comfort access is mandatory! "magic door touch" is the "in thing here." We can't be wrangling with the 'board' at the beach and looking for our key fob! Bummer. What's with the suede "like" cover? It's like..."cloth" or something? Not sure what a mirror cover is, so pics are necessary for your ride...

Welcome to the forum!

Am I ever glad I left the Beach Boy lyric about "waxing down my woodie" out of my post.

PS What's a "pantsn"?

A "pantsn" is defined as the word that appears when entering text on a crappy Android while eating at a Mexican restaurant and downing several Dos Equis Ambers while meaning to type "pants."

Not getting the convenience package is my biggest regret as I would have really liked comfort access, pdc and the rear sunshade. For $1000, you get a lot of bang for the buck there. But I was looking for a NEW 2012 to keep the cost of a weekender down and the pickens were slim. Color combo was my first priority. I really wanted the Space Grey and black leather and the price was right (I think). It was between this car and a LeMans blue on black up in the Bay Area but my family seemed to hate the blue. They said it was not dark enough.

I think I got it for about $11.5K off sticker (I'm discounting the unreasonable price the pack sticker allocated to the performance exhaust and carbon fiber items). I'm waiting for someone to come on here and say they got $15K off sticker to ruin my day.

That said, I love this car. It rides much nicer than the 09 C63 it replaced, seems to handle better too. And I won't hate getting 20mpg compared to the 12 the C63 got. Gotta say, though, that 63 got respect. Lots of thumbs up and looks from people that seemed to say "that car is a frieking animal!" And it was.

According to my understanding "waxing down my woodie" is about 80% of a TOU violation, but "pantsn" is only about 65%. You're good to go.

Maybe the pickens were slim, but your car is still da bomb!

No, no board surfing for this old guy. I grew up on Long Island and just never made the transition to surf dude when I got here.

230 wheels looks great on your car why trade it for 18" wheels?

I just like the look of the 313's better. Less wheel, less silver.

Unless you're a "trend setter" into mods and impressing the BMW "mod" crowd, it might be a good idea to settle on 18s. The 19" are extremely "sensitive" to underinflation...pot hole damage and our usual aggressive camber settings, not to mention that they cost a fortune to replace.

Technically, 19" have less "air chamber volume" vs. 18" and even a small air leak will have them "running flat" in no time at all. Pay up! "Impact resistance" is miserable...and this will also translate into rim/wheel damage...I guarantee it.

Calif. roads "used" to be good. No more...not as bad as NYC, but I found data that compared NYC "pot hole" damage to NYC, and we in CA weren't that far behind.

I did manage to get a "blister/bubble" with my RF tires on my '08 335i in SoCal...first time in MY LIFE that I've ever had this happen (I'm convinced that RFs are prone to pot hole damage vs. non-RFs).

GO 18'S!!

The problem is finding a set of clean 18"s and getting a good price for the wheels and tires I already have. I'm not looking for a $4000 wheel swap.
