Alpine white paint code

I need a spray can of alpine white for my 2000 528. The plate under the hood says Alpine White II (218) but the websites I've looked at list Alpine White III (300) as the color for that year. This may be a silly question but are they interchangeable? If not which is right?

thanks

I think II and III would be close enough depending on what you're painting

I don't know if they are interchangable or not. I thought 218 was discontinued years ago. The 5 series BMW brochure lists 300 for Alpine White. Check the build date thru the process below. You may be able to verify the color difference by calling a body shop in your area that is familiar with repair/painting BMW's.

Use this link with the last 7 digits of your VIN. It will give you the build sheet for your car. Exterior paint color will be listed.

Link: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...catalogue.html

After following the link click on "Electronic parts catalog" in the lower right of the screen. (you will need to have pop-up enabled)

Identification: eu111111
Password: bmwetk1

Enter the last 7 digits of you VIN into the text box, and click the forward button. Next click on "options" in the grey header at the top of the screen.

A new window will open listing the option packages your car came with from the factory. You can also click the "+" above options labeled Vehicle Information to see the basic build info as well.

just go to a store that supplies body shops, they will retrieve your paint code and help you out, they can mix the paint right there, make sure you look through the color chips to pick out the best variant,(usually "standard") recomend going with a german paint company(spiesheck/ standox,), As i have noticed their color matches are a little better than say "dupont". some places will put it in a spray can for you. they also sell clear coat in a can, not bad depending on the application, do a test panel first.....I do not recommend going to a body shop, will most likely aggravate somone. I paint cars every day.

Thanks for the tips guys. The build sheet does say 300 for my car built 10-21-1999. But the plate under the hood swears Alpine White II. 300 is easier to get and it's just for the air dam under the grille. I tried a dupli-color GM paint, too white. I want to respray before I reattach the black lip on the bottom. Incidentally at $26 one of the cheapest things I ever got from a dealer!

I have no idea the answer to the question, but typing /paint F3 in the best links might provide the OP with further information that may be useful ...
