Question Specifying tires when ordering F30 Sport Line

My brochure says the F30 may come equipped with All-Season or Summer performance run flats. I know there's no way I can order with "real" (non-run flat) shoes, but can I specify specific tires; e.g., Pirelli or Bridgestone, or is it luck of the draw?

Its luck of the draw at the factory, basically whatever they had avail at thr time. Best you can do is negotiate with your ca to swap before you take delivery. If they have a car in stock with the same wheels as you are getting with the tire you want they'll probably be able to accommodate you.

When ordering a Sport line car ask your CA to add ZPT. Its no cost to you but specifies Performance Tires instead of the default ZAS (All Seasons). Bonus: higher top speed limiter.

Yeah, but when you get the high performance tires, aren't they staggered? So no tire rotation is possible, and I would guess you will get less miles out of them.

I never specified anything. I thought all seasons came standard - so I never really specified anything because I was ok with that. I live in PA.

But like I just said in another thread, I ended up with summer performance tires.

No. You can get 18 square with summer tires on the sport line.

Correct.

M-Sports come with a staggered setup.

Right, but on the Sport Line you can opt for the "no charge" performance tire upgrade that is required to increase the speed limiter. If you opt for that though -- you get the staggered tires.

Hmmm. That is not at all what my CA told me when I ordered -- but I guess it wouldn't surprise me that he was wrong...again.

Thanks.

Exactly. And for the budget minded track junkies, square setups are easier to manage.

Thanks.
ask him for the part numbers for the front and rear rims.
wait for the smell of burning batteries.

there is only one part number and size for style 397 rims, and that's because they only make them in 18X8.

only style 400 and 403 rims (msport) come in staggered sizes, 18X8/8.5 and 19X8/8.5

This is (almost) correct. Style 401 and 403 are the 19" staggered wheels. On the Sport Line, the only 19" option (and therefore, staggered) would be 401. As you mentioned, 403 are M Sport Line.

Ah, I totally forgot about the no-cost "solution" - I guess because it's not listed on bmwconfig.com

Squares are the same size in front and back. You can only get a square setup with summer tires in 225/18. The staggered setup comes with 255's in the rear. Because the front and rear tires are different widths, you're unable to rotate your tires all the way around and spread out the wear. You'll replace the rear tires more often. Also, the staggered setup on the m sport comes in 19's....and in general, tires get more expensive as they get larger. Wider tires in back will give you better off the line traction and theoretically wider tires square improve handling, but all things being equal, a staggered setup will produce more under steer than a square setup. Unless you're tracking the car, though, this conversation is almost entirely about aesthetics. Which do you think LOOKS better and do you want to pay for it?

So I ordered a 328i Sport Line without the no charge tire upgrade/speed limited upgrade. What size tires will I have?
