Noobie Needs Your Purchase Help!

Hey All,

I've been reading the forums for about a month now in anticipation of my first purchase. I first want to say thank you all for the wealth of information available on the forums.

I've been shopping around for 2009-2011 CPO 3-series for a few months now and have found one in particular that I really like. Just test drove it and below are the features.

Price: $28,500
Year: 2010
Make: BMW
Model: 328i xDrive
Bodystyle: Sedan
Mileage: 37,862 miles
Engine: 3.0L I-6 cyl
Transmission: 6 Speed Automatic
Exterior Color: Monaco Blue Metallic
Interior Color: Black w/Dakota Leather
Other: Premium Pkg, Moonroof, Navigation, Value Pkg, Xenon Headlights, Park Distance Control, etc...

All in all, I thought it was a reasonable deal. 1 owner, fairly low miles, nice packages. I'll be trading in my current car ($7,500 trade in value) and was considering putting some additional cash as a down-pmt ($2500-5k). I'll be financing the reminder (790 credit score) and was considering a 60 or 72 month term so that the initial pmts are low. I will likely pay off the car in 1-2 years.

Here are my questions, hope you can help me:

1. Is this a good deal given the packages, year, mileage.

2. The dealer offers 4-yr/50k mileage "all-in" maintenance (covers oil changes, tune ups etc...) - Is it work it to buy another 2-yrs for $2,400 or would you just take that cash and save it/do the maint yourself?

3. Can someone please explain what the 6-yr/100k mileage warranty doesn't include? I'm not trying to get stuck with my pants down on some unexpected maintenance cost (though I understand these are not cheap to maintain).

4. Given your vast expertise, would you buy this car?

I appreciate all the help. If anyone has any insight, suggestions, feedback, criticisms; please post them, I would love to hear what you have to say - the more info the better!

Thank you!!

The CPO section of www.bmwusa.com gives ALL the details of the CPO program, including what the warranty covers and doesn't cover. It also includes a .pdf of the CPO inspection checklist. imo, extended maintenance is not worth it at all.

Navigation/xenons are hard to find on 328xi's as most of the dealer inventory I have seen were sold with premium/value package only. The price you listed is a bit higher but that is probably because of the extra equipment. I've seen 2010 cpo's with premium/value and 20k miles listed at 25-26k here in NJ. If want the extra equipment than yes it's worth paying more for.

Today is Saturday, a day to unwind; a fine day, a beer day.

Your clever mention of wort is much appreciated.

IIRC, the 'Mean' annual driving mileage in the U.S. (males) is about 14K/year...so, depending on "in service" date and "out of service" date, yours seems a little high.
