Regulations are driving change for all car brands in America.

BMW is not getting away from anything. They are merely trying to develop a product that is still fun given the restrictions placed on them which are mainly fuel economy and safety.

The 2,000lb , 6-speed manual car of the 1990's is no longer feasible or cost effective to produce in mass for any car company.

Plus those same BMW buyers (even the so called fanatics) are demanding more crap and options on the car adding considerably more weight.

Not just America, but globally. For example, even in Europe and Asia, automatics are becoming the norm.

However, BMW, in my opinion, has become a company that wants to appeal to the masses more than its core enthusiast community in an effort to grow its market share. How else do you justify the F10 that is one of the heaviest in its class? I am not blaming BMW; after all, it is trying to maximize profit like every for-profit company should.

My M3 had to go into the shop for 2 weeks after we had an encounter with a sink hole - I was given a 535ix as a loaner. Long story short - my 535ix was neither a sports sedan nor a very good luxury car. A pervasive feeling of weight dominated the driving experience, and surprisingly, the car was not especially comfortable. I find it very disconcerting that BMW would create such an uninspired disconnected car. BMW is a big tent – perhaps the price of survival – and traditional BMW enthusiasts increasingly occupy a smaller area of that big tent.

I think the marketing arm of BMW is trying to meet a nich. All businesses do that or try.
I have a few different rides for different reasons.

Your coming from an m3, if course a 5 series is likely to feel unwelcoming to tou.

Amen!

I drive an M3 because it makes me happy. Anytime I'm depressed, I just take it to 8400 RPM and any worries or thoughts that I had that were making me sad are gone. I just love hearing that engine sing the song of it's people.

i sold my f10 550 which was very very fast (especially with the dinan stage 2) but was i think too big and heavy for me. i loved my e60 5 series but those days are gone. e92 m3 i think is the best bmw that has been or will be made. and thats an informed opinion.

My family has had 13 BMW's the past couple years...does that still make my opinion informed if I say the M3 is my favorite out of the bunch?

There has been many great BMWs overall and in my own car history but the race bread S65 and it's V10 daddy are unparalleled together with the awseome seats. The lighter cars in the past has other virtues so it's hard to compare. Overall I'd say the E9X M3 is very hard to beat.

Btw, I would think the early and now debunked speculation of a V6 in the F80 was the M-division toying with the idea of lopping two cylinders of the S65 and either super or turbo charge it.

///M Engineers actually admitted an option for the next gen M3 was the S65 with turbo chargers.

Spotted my first Vi-mobile today. Check out the Visalis badging on the trunk. Who's gonna join up on team Vi?

Please excuse the mess in my truck.

Sorry, I can't help but notice. Do I see a Micropore tape and a box of syringes or gloves in your truck, maybe?

Here is the current dash board spread. The tape is just some 3M stuff one of the guys working for me is using to wrap his hand. The boxes are full of door hardware and stems for shower knobs.

Sorry I could not even focus on the photo of the bimmer with all the trash in the photgrapher's car.

Serisouly, you need to get a leaf blower and clean the thing out.

Chuck,

Please accept my most sincere apologies. If I had it to do over again I would have taken the picture from my M6. I'm sure my fine Merino dash would have been much easier on your eyes.

I think this thread came to an all time low when you said you would move because of all the other "low end 3 series" . Get over yourself you pompous douche bag.

BMW has been the yuppie car of choice since the 1980s, this is nothing new...its was best shown by the Movie madhouse in 1990 described by IMDB as "the luxurious villa of Mark and Jessie Bannister, a yuppie couple, is overrun by loads of uninvited guests who turn the house up side down."

Opening scene reveals 2 BMWs for the Yuppie Dinks:

LOL don't back track now that you miss-stepped. FYI I'm in college and just paid for an m3 in cash and could'a bought anything to "stand out more" for someone that thinks everyone buying a 3series/ "rich college kids" who want to be cool it's kind of funny you seem overly obsessed with what others are driving, what others are given (or helped earned with investment accounts ), and how you can "stand out a bit"

Stop being a tryhard and just buy the car that speaks to you.

Exactly.. Not the fastest car I could have bought, not the most expensive, but it seems pretty damn perfect right now

I think the worst thing is BMW didn't price the new/used market so high this guy would find a different brand.

I don't know about other locations, but here in North Central Florida, the 'yuppies' sure do have a lot of BMW's (and Mercs, and Audis... but I digress) -- but they're mostly all X3/5, 328/335. M cars still appear to be limited to enthusiasts, not just random wealthy folks. I just bought a 2013 M3 and I'm sure it will stand out just fine.
