New 128i Vert - A couple first questions
Picked up a new, 2013 128i convertible yesterday - Vermillion red w/Oyster interior, auto, Premium package, Cold weather package, HK, BMW assist, comfort access (our second BMW purchase within four months, the first being a '13 328ix).
The first action upon returning home was, of course, to set up the garage door remotes. While doing so I discovered that in the 128i it isn't sufficient to be in radio-ready mode for the garage door remote to be activated, but you have to have the engine running. This is odd as in our 328ix the garage door remote is powered in ready-radio mode and, as it is, if you happened to have entered the vehicle without first opening the door it requires you to either exit the vehicle to open the garage door (using the wall mounted control) or to start the engine before opening the door. Also, the manual states that radio-ready mode allows powering of any one electrical consumer. So, do all 128's require an engine start to power up the garage door remote or is there a setting somewhere I haven't come across?
The one option I have some regret of not having (this was an in stock vehicle) is park distance control which, given the poor rearward visibility in the convertible, would be useful. Anyone know if it is practical to have a dealer add this? If all it requires is installation of the proximity sensors in the rear bumper cover and some programming it would seem it could be done reasonably. If there are more basic components required I expect not.
