Good news/bad news...

I went by the dealer today and was glad they've started in on my car. The Tech has set an admittedly unrealistic goal to be finished by THIS Friday. More likely Monday/Tuesday, but he's still gunning for Friday. That will give me ample time to complete my tasks and get ready for the trip Down South.

They ordered a "special" gun to replicate the factory applied seam-sealer, so we'll see how that goes. I suggested that he try it out on a piece of cardboard first...
PPLLBBTT!!

Trying to make the finished job look as though it left the factory that way.

Subframe is still in while he sets the final dimensions for all the new bracketry to be tacked into place. He'll pull it out to complete the welding, removal of the former differential brkt. and for painting. While the subframe is out, a set of Ireland bushings will be installed in place of the stock ones. Just like on the black car.

The bad news, is my Canon PowerShot G1 BLEW UP! I was standing there talking to one of the Techs, when I made a gesture and brought both my hands together with a resounding POP/SPARK/FLASH! I can only guess that it was a major static electrical discharge (from the Tech using a d/a on plastic?) that zapped the camera. It is dead. Changed the battery and still no pulse. After thousands of project pictures, it is gone.

Looking at the bright side, I'm glad the car is being worked on and the camera went KaBoom instead of it being the other way around

Here's a little teaser from today...

A. Cool that the car will be able to come to HC.

B. Sucks about the G1. But. I would rather have my camera blown up than stolen by a crack whore in downtown Hartford, CT.

C. LeatherZ will have a set of wood ramps at HC. 2x10 or 2x12. We can use them for under car inspections on Thursday if we can get them out of the trailer.

A. Yes

B. Yes. True, at least it blew up in MY hands.

C. Good, although additional options may be available from one of the area's newest residents

Stopped by today and swapped out the stock subframe bushes for the Ireland ones.

The subframe was laying on the floor making the installation nearly effortless

Also signs of progress throughout the trunk too.

Made two (2) trips to the shop today, once at lunch and then again after the Tech called me around 4:45 PM.

Only the top cap needs to be welded on and everything dressed up a bit. After that, they can try out their new seam sealant gun. Twenty-four hours later, green paint!

Really getting down to the wire here, as I need this coming weekend to get everything back together and cleaned/preened for HC.

All welding work is finished and seam sealer(s) applied.

The bottom has two (2) types of seam sealer; the white that fills in all the seam gaps and whatnot and is then topped with a black (rubberized) spray on sealer that mimicks the factory stuff perfectly.

The interior of the trunk was due for the spray on sealer right after lunch. It should camouflage the added pieces quite well with its texured finish.

Last job for today is to get the trunk interior and underside painted with the DCC Concept paint I had mixed up to match the factory E-coat.

Tomorrow they will put back together the portion that they took apart. Once I get the car back home, I'll put the rest of the trunk back in place. I'm counting on that being this weekend...

Not unless Andy can get Ben to jump through hoops. Sounds like delivery will be the week following HC. Too bad, would've been nice...
