2012 750i Dinan Stage 4 vs 2013 750i

My car has the Dinan stage 4 with the intercoolers. I thought the car was pretty powerful. My car has been at the dealer for tire issues, and they lent me a 2013 750Li. Let me just say I was stunned at the difference. The 2013 is like a rocket ship compared to my car. My car seems slow and sluggish now. I don't know if the software is really installed in my car, or if the tune is really BS. I want to make the them drive both cars and tell me why my car feels so slow compared to the 2013. I feel like I spent all that money on the tune and intercoolers and my car is no faster than it should be. Dinan's claim of 520 hp and 595 ft-lbs of torque just seems way off, I don't know?

doesnt sound right. my AH7 sports 455hp/515lb and is still considered faster than the incoming 2013 750li (0-60 4.5 & 12.7 quarter)
So only a couple of things: Either the 2013 750li is waaaay faster than bmw is claiming (which would be great), or you have a slower car than "promised"...something I've seen here in the forums with many people complaining about their Dinan installation. Because with your stats you should be running very fast. ...look at the other forums, i saw that others went back into had their Dinan install inspected or verified...and they had to redo it....and after they claimed their car was instantly faster...Good luck & Best wishes....hope it turns out.

I dont have dinan stage 4 but i have a jb beta tune and I lined up against my friends 2013 750. ( mine is a 2012) and it wasnt even close. I had him by 2-3 cars and we both shut it down. I think it just feels different because of the transmissions being a 6seed vs a 8speed. Thats my opinion

Could it be the software of the throttle response. I know the throttle response on my 2012 is pretty leisurely.

You get nothing initially, push it more, it downshifts, and then you almost have too much than you want. It's a issue with start/stop traffic.

Try coming from a '12 740Li to a '13 750i!! The difference is massive...

I sold my '12 300SRT8 because I don't feel compelled to drive it anymore, my 7er is as fast if not a little faster. It's a complete package, no compromises. Lots of ideas what to replace it with, hmmm.

That's what I expected you to do, your 7 now got everything and more than the SRT, so makes no sense to keep the Chrysler anymore.

I have Dinan Stage 3 on both my 750 and 650... and in both the difference from stock is phenomenal!! Who did your instal? Have them verify and show you on their computer which software is installed on your car. It will say "Dinan" and indicate which stage. Good luck!

Check 0-60 time. I had an extremely long rant on here about this exact issue. You will trick yourself into believing its faster unless you have a direct comparison. It's been straight up proven the dealership will give your car back without the software installed and call it done. Stock I was 5.0, stage 3 I'm consistently 4.2.

I took my car to the track and ran stock, then stage 1, and then stage 2. Actual results are in this thread.

Just make sure you do some real track measurement like Richard did, and not some half-assed stopwatch measurement which tells basically nothing.

PapaFlEx - How do you like the jb tune? I've been wanting to do a Dinan, but the reviews seem to be all over the place. Did you install it yourself, or take it to someone. I was looking at their website and it seems straight forward. Apprectiate your thoughts.

Hello JSNSIM,

The tune is great, it was a very easy install. I urge you to get the product its def noticeable power gains. Supposedly puts down the same power to the wheels as dinan. I do not have anything bad to say about it at all. Even the support is great from Terry.

There is a group of us in Southern California that were/are trying to plan a meet at a track like that, and compare. Mine being the LCI, Alex/Raj(?) a pre-LCI 750, and a modded Dinan (CABimmerNation). If we can do that it should be interesting to see the spread. I personally have not gone up against either but these cars being so heavy I think the difference between mine and a 09-12 750 would be negligible - I could be wrong. I think Jim's with the dinan upgrades would be the quickest.

That would be very good information. Make sure that everyone comes off the line the same, i.e. no power braking. Same settings "Sport +" etc. Want it to be 100% car and not who is the better driver.

We will all go over and fill up with gas before the throw down, for you shysters showing up on fumes. Don't worry, I'll be watching these guys and their tricks, as I am the one to beat.
I'm going to check for ice packed around Raj's intercoolers.

I second that, I have the JB tune and my 7 is a rocket with no lag, currently driving a 2013 550i M sport which is lighter and supposedly faster, and i feel that my 7 has more mid range TQ with the JB N63 stage 1 . I am not and never be sold on the Dinan Tune as its just my preference I guess

Yeah, I am in the process of getting a new car since mine was just totaled. I called Dinan today to tell them that my son wrecked my car and that I only had my Stage II for 10 months. I was hoping they would cut me a break and install it on my new car but the answer was NO WAY! They said I had to purchase it again and the software follows the VIN number. I politely told them that I was not going to give them another $3,500. He was a nice guy, but it didn't seem to bother him. He suggested I hit the dealer up for a discount.

Now I'm looking for alternatives.

That really sucks. Decent business practice would be to at least provide a pro-rated credit towards another tune. I was looking into Dinan package for my next car and I didn't see that it was available yet for the '13+ V8 w/ valvetronic.
