Exclamation Box fan code?

Whats up people?
I own a 2008 335i m sport and recently had taken it to the dealer for the "service engine soon" light. They read the code and it appeared as an issue with a box fan?
Does anyone know whats this means because the my cars cooling fan works great and the car itself runs great_the service advisor stated they would have to diagnose for a few hours $$$ and it may be a short of some kind.

Please help

The first step is to take it to an indy vs the dealership for any out of warranty work. Do you know what the actual code is?

There is a small fan inside the plastic box that houses the DME and keeps it cool. I'm assuming this is what they found faulty.

Seriously!?

I have never seen a fan inside the dme housing

And surely, if that is the case. It would not take a couple hours to diagnosis it.

Only thing I can think off that is like a fan/will trip the SES light is the DMTL pump in the evaporative canister.

It's an emissions testing pump and pressurizes the Evap system a couple psi to test for leaks.

This could take a couple hours if there is a leak and they are trying to smoke the system to find it.

Ask your dealer what the fault code was and report back.

Item #5 in the diagram. And yes, a proper diagnosis will take some time. The tech should be testing the wiring for shorts and open circuits before throwing parts at the car.

So it's behind the housing. No wonder I've never seen it.
