2 weeks ago I bought an 07 328i. I haven't even received my permanent plates yet and today some idiot decides my rear bumper is a good place to park his car. Anybody have an idea as to how much it will cost to replace the bumper. Thankfully he had insurance and they are going to cover it. Is there anything else I should be worried about being damaged inside? It's all cosmetic (dents, scuffs and scratches) damage but I'm just curious.

have it checked out at a body shop just to be sure. His insurance should pick up the tab so do it right. Might also be the time to go with an upgrade from stock (depending on your styling thoughts of course)

I don't want to get in an accident, but if it happens I'd finally have an excuse to get an M Sport bumper...

That would be awesome if insurance would pay for the upgrade

This. Also, be sure to have the body shop check the bumper shocks - they are one-time use items.

Have the body shop bill the insurance co the price for a standard bumper and you pay the remainder. Less sticker shock that way.

I had an accident a couple months ago and needed a bumper replacement. Replacement cost for paint, parts, labor was $1200 for a brand new OEM bumper, $950 for refinished bumper. Insurance covered everything. Months before the accident, I grazed my front bumper on a curb, and the bottom had a small crack in it. Drove me crazy, so I took it to a body shop for what was essentially a cosmetic repair. Without replacing the bumper, just a removal and reinstall cost $700 for paint and labor. Anyway, you're probably looking at somewhere in the ballpark of $1000 to $1200 for a full replacement, but if their insurance is covering the cost, you shouldn't have to worry. Just to give you an idea of cost for cosmetic repair vs. full replacement. As far as internal damage, I'm sure you may not have to worry about that either if it's all just dents, scuffs and scratches and nothing major - but get it checked out just to err on the side of caution if you are very concerned, that way any underlying issues could be addressed on the spot.

I'm taking to an actual BMW collision center so I'm sure they will be through. But I will bring up that point. Thanks

Insurance only quoted $460 to repaint it and not replace it

Got my car back and it looks great. Only problem is while it was in the shop someone helped themselves to my personal belongings.

Before and after pics?

Tell the shop to replace the items. If they won't, call the cops then and there.

Nothing to bad. Just some scuffed paint. But it looks like new.

I went back to the body shop and told the manager and he said they are not responsible for items in the car so I called the cops and filed a report and they said since I don't know who did it they are not going investigate any further.

Well that's dandy. Don't go back to that place. Make sure to silently and sneakishly take a dump on someones car on your way by there, next time that is.
