85 323i everything with a 2.7 bottom end?

I've been reading everywhere about this but I can't find someone in the same situation as me, as 323s are euro models and are rare in murrica.

If I use my 323 everything, remove the engine swap the block, will it work?
Will it perform?
Or is it even worth it?
I'm just looking for the cheapest extra hp I can find.

So not a simple pull the motor, swap blocks, and drop back in? Has anyone here done the swap?

you can look at the stroker builds. the big question would be the wiring and ecu. you may have to go onto a euro site for more info since most of us 'murrica guys dont get to see that motor

I have a 323 that is supposed to have the 2.7 bottom end on it.
I have had no time yet, to pull the head & verify that.
What I gather, is you can either get the 2.7 bottom end or the individual components (crank, piston, rods etc.) that drop right in.
As to the head, mine is still the stock 731 casting, which I will keep, if I turbo it
Where it gets interesting, is the compression ratio, as you can leave it nice 'n low for a Turbo conversion or build a high CR moor with big valves etc. for NA powerhouse.

Cheapest power will and always be slapping a snail onto the m20. Building a NA m20 will cost a crap ton(built two already). I had a bit over 2,500 in just parts and about 700 in machining. 6-12psi will yield mid 200s to the wheels all day.

Sure you can build a plain Jane 'stroker conversion' using factory m20 combos. You will NEVER see more than 200hp at the crank. 3.0 bottom end with a 272 or 288 and a proper tune will be fun but still slow. Boils down to what you are after power wise and budget. Best bang for your buck is a basic m50 swap. A junk yard 24v swap will walk a conversion stroker all day.

Just stick with the basic setup you have and put the money towards a refresh, ARP studs and a MLS .70 gasket. Build a turbo setup and enjoy!
