2011 328i and iPhone 5

I am new to this forum and had question about the iDrive system and my iPhone 5.
I would like to use my iPhone 5 loaded with the connected app on it with the iDrives Connected drive, but I am not able to pair the 2 via the Apple Lightning USB cable. I can only play music and use the telephone via bluetooth. Is there a way to get the two to work? I have tried everything, but nothing seems to work. I would like to be able to have my twitter and facebook and the BMW internet radio work, but I can't.

Thanks so much for your help in advanced!
