Missing something under the hood

So...I have purchased a 2007 335I. Im looking under the hood and a cover is missing...or I think it is. Please take a look at the pic and give your opinion. Has there been after market work on this car?

Thank you

You have an aftermarket airfilter system that deletes the oem airbox and associated items.

And a rather cheap one at that. It's taking all the hot air from the engine compartment, not an ideal setup.

Why would someone add an aftermarket air filter system?

Because they think it increases performance. It does make it louder...

Many thanks for all the responses.

But one more question...should I leave as is or have it replaced with OEM? Killjoy not a fan of this set-up.

I would replace it with either aFe system (aftermarket) http://www.modbargains.com/aFe-Stage-2-N54-Sealed-Air-Intake-System-135i-335i-335i-Z4-35i.htm or put the stock (OEM) system back.

That's good advice. But here's the rub: Does it carry a tune?
