What is missing?

I got my new air temp gauge in the mail today, in hopes of being able to plug it in and have a working temp gauge again. But apparently, I am still missing something. SO if you know what it is and where I can buy the "male" part to this, I would appreciate it. Thanks

If you were looking for the air temp sensor that goes under the bumper you bought the wrong part.

Awesome, a member on here linked me to that and said it is what i needed to buy. ha. My gauge reads -40 inside, I read that it was from a broken circuit.

Ditto JimLev...if you're looking for the ambient temp sensor that's located in the under panel behind the right (passenger) fog light...then you need #1 in the diagram below and part nbr index:

Your 1st pic is the #3 in the quoted diagram. Nothing is missing there.

And to add to that, most of us would recommend relocating that sensor to a higher location, less prone to getting ripped off.

To relocate the sensor, type "/a m b i e n t" F3 in the bestlinks and you'll see this, among others, from cn90 ...

DIY: 1998 528i AMBIENT Temp Sensor Hiding Place:
I wrote this DIY in 2006 including my trick to relocate the AMBIENT Temp sensor to a safer place. It is in the place just in front of the passenger's side wheel well plastic cover (remove the passenger's side wheel well plastic cover and you will see the Secondary Air Pump in there).
