BMW won't support Samsung Galaxy S3?

Picked up my 2013 328i convertible earlier in the week, & at check out, my salesman programed my Samsung Galaxy S3 in the car's bluetooth, went fine. But it won't download my phonebook. He comes back later to inform me that my phone isn't supported yet.
Checked online at BMW's site & also confirmed on phone w/ BMW 800# cust support, same story.

Can't believe that although that the S3 is the most popular & best selling phone in America, it's still not supported by BMW by now?

It works fine in my wife & kids' Mercedes, Jeep & Ford.

Anyone has success in downloading their phonebook into their BMW?

Thanks,

Samsung Galaxy S3

This was covered in a previous thread:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...oth+samsung+s3

I had the same problem as you with my phonebook not loading. However, after cleaning up all my contacts it uploads everytime without fail.

Good luck!

Your SA is just giving you the BMW line that you should only use supported phones. The reality is that BMW has tested and approved only a fraction of the phones that are available. But, most phones should be fine.

Let's see...
Samsung is the world's biggest cell phone company.

But according to BMW:
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...hframedin.aspx

Only 4 Samsung phones are supported, & I've only heard of one of them:
YP-Q2, YP-U5, Vibrant & Nexus

It works with mine. Just got a s3 this January. I deleted my old phone out of the car, then connected the s3, and my contacts loaded right up.

When we bought my wife's 2011 335is Coupe we both had the HTC Droid Incredible. Her phone uploaded her contacts, no problem, mine had problems. I cleaned up my Contacts, unpaired and then re-paired the phone, and it worked fine. No problem when we both upgraded to the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx about a year ago.

The problem with a phone not uploading your contacts is that you have at least one contact with a corrupt data field, the car has problems with the corrupted field, and aborts the whole process. It's a pain, but you have to go through your phone, looking at every contact and every field in every contact, clean out multiple entries, etc.

When we got the Razr Maxx I found that HTC had hidden fields in its contacts which migrated to the Maxx as Notes in the contact field. That took a bunch of clean up too.

The Razr Maxx also uploads my contacts in my 2006 Z4 M Roadster with no problem.

OK.
So we're narrowing it down to corrupted data fields in the phonebook.
& how to check to see which fields are "corrupted" & how do you know that they're corrupted?

My S3 works fine with my 2009 328ix...I just use it to place and receive calls, because I don't need to download the 500+ phone numbers in my contacts.

Pilgrim:

My S3 phone works just fine too, if I also just wanted to use the bluetooth function, to just pull out my phone to manually dial while driving. But I do NOT want to do that!

The main purpose of this thread is that I'm having problems downloading my phonebook, so I can just click a button on the steering wheel & voice, while driving:
"Call home"
"Call office"
"Call wife"
"Call son"
etc...
Just like I can do with 3 other cars in the family.

At least on my 2009, those functions aren't supported from the phone book but are individually entered into the voice recognition system. You give it the number, tell it you want to save it, then tell it what the name is.

Perhaps it's better than it used to be. I used mine for the first 6 months or so, and haven't done anything with it for the last 3 years. I just got tired of shouting and repeating myself for the voice functions, and gave up on them completely.

My phone always shows me that the car is asking to upload contacts - I just tell it no.

I like the idea of programming a dozen or so numbers into the car - that would be enough for me to sort through.

Thanks, Zooks.
Now that's a great idea!
I don't need to call my entire phonebook list, maybe just a half dozen frequently called numbers.
Now that's a safer way not to text & drive...
