Eibach vs H&R springs

For those who have done the spring upgrade...

Is one of these brands better quality the other?

If I go H&R, will this reduce my wheel size options?

I was looking for 19's (even considered 20's bc of cost/options on 19's, but I'm sure i won't go there considering the nice roads here in NYC/NJ), but if H&R drops too low to upgrade to these sizes I may stick Eibach or simply keep the 17's I have on now.

Thanks!

I've used both brands of springs on other cars I've owned, but they both are a very high quality spring in my opinion. There really isn't a bad choice between the two. Personally, I had the H&R's on my Acura Integra for a while and swapped to Eibach Sportlines for a more aggressive drop and I have Eibach Pro-kits on my WRX. I will say that the Eibach springs will lower the car MORE than they advertise. At least it has been for me, and everyone else I know that used Eibach springs. I'm not sure what the difference in the advertised drop is, but I'm pretty sure that they'll end up very close to each other in the real world.

Thanks for the feedback!

The H&R's claim a 1.5 - 2" drop, where the Eibach Pro Kit says 1.2" or so front and rear.

If they are of equal quality I'll prob go with the H&R for the slightly lower stance.

Just remember if you go too low you won't be able to get the alignment back to factory specs. I'm not sure what the number is, but at some point you may need camber plates to avoid problems. FWIW I went with Eibach pro kit springs on my X3.

Hmmm. I know others have installed them, haven't read of camber issues so I'm guessing its within limits still.

How do you like the Eibachs?

This is a pretty good article from Tire Rack on this where they tested an e46... prob not a too far off comparison to my 04 (aside from the amount of drop)

I love the Eibachs. Although I was upgrading from suspension that had 120,000 miles on it.
Very controlled and not too stiff. Much more compliant than the stock suspension IMO.

Hey everyone,

I have replaced my suspension with K&W coilovers. I have lowered my car to the floor and raised my car all the way up for the winter. I prefer these coilovers over any other suspension, unless you have a e46 I would go with broadwaystatic. If you guys wanna see pictures of how low I've gone let me know and I can send pictures or I can give you my Instagram to see pictures.

You should post them up here if you have some time... I'm sure there are others interested in how this worked out.

I've of course been looking at the Variant 2 as well, just didn't find many people that have gone this way.

Thanks!

damn, you get that thing low...hahahaha. Great job with your ride though, I love it. Looking forward to seeing it in person

Being able to fully customize the ride in both height and stiffness is prob worth the few hundred extra I bet to really go all out.

Yea, you can do all of that.

I've had these coilovers for about 3 and half years and I have had no problems with them. But this summer I might get new front struts from k&w since i have a life time warranty because I think they are leaking a lil.

They are leaking because NYC roads are not the greatest roads to be driving on but can't do anything about it.

Nope the 1st one was the springs, 2nd is the first day I put the coilovers and the 3rd is this year right after the winter I put the rims on. I can't find a stock picture. The springs had a slight drop. It was like an 1in but the coilovers I am down 4in and I still have the helper springs on. I can probably go another inch or two lower if I remove them.

Have you ever had any alignment issues with those coilovers? Are you still able to get aligned to spec at that height? I'm interested in getting some, but I'm curious on what kind of effect it'll have on the suspension geometry.

I have no driveline issues, axles, bearing etc problems. Car runs and drives like it is brand new.

The only issue with the alignment that I can think of was with the camber. But everyone wants a little camber when you lower a car. Other than that I have no problems.
