What's the highest speed F10 drivers have touched?

I was driving my daughter to her soccer game an hour and a half away and we were 25 minutes late leaving, so had to make up time.

Went the back way, which was a slightly longer drive but which was relatively deserted. We touched 125 on the way. This got me thinking. What's the highest speed the F10 festers have touched?

(Yes, we made up all 25 minutes )

Hit 130 once....could have gone a lot more....but kept thinking of how much that ticket would have cost! F10 felt really tight at high speeds

Wouldn't dream of it with one of my kids in the car though...

You're probably right. But I will say that there wasn't anyone else on the road, it was flat and straight, and great visibility (middle of the desert). So the risk was low. But yes, I will probably not do it again with her in the car.

But then, not sure her life would be much better without a dad so now that you mention it I should probably minimize these until the kids leave home

Utah, nice. I dream of roads like this! I can imagine it would be really easy (and safe) to hit high speeds in these types of roads. It doesn't take long at all to get that speedo up to 100.

Not in my F10 (535i), but my previous '08 335i, I hit 95mph or so. The one time I do something like that and an unmarked patrol car pulled me over. It's been a few years already, but I don't go faster than the flow of traffic these days, maybe 70-ish, at least in a 55 zone. One "bad" ticket will do it, I would advise care. I had a lawyer, etc., which didn't do a lot of help. In any event, these cars are totally stable and meant to go fast. I think 120 would be no big deal, for the car that is.

85 when driving from LA to SF.

75 (double ) where I live and work. Even though the 535i begs to be driven at triple digit speed.

That's what you get for living in a police state.

Its not. And with suspension I'd say 140+ is only when I'd start to get nervous and thats from a brakes standpoint.

And honestly if you talk to some of the kids in our area and the amount of multiple dui's they've been able to get out of with lawyers/throwing cash at the problem exc. I don't think 1 big speeding ticket would be the end all be all.

I know of a kid who just got his 6th DUI on the books also wrecked a lex, benz, and explorer and he's now getting another lex hasn't lost his license other than suspension now I ask whose a greater risk to the public lol.

Um ok. A reckless driving misdemeanor is not something I'm really happy about.

I have had it past 260KM/h which I think is 162mph - the speedo only goes to 260 so I'm not sure sure how much faster than that I was going;

This was a closed road/track btw

around here 50km over the speed limit is consider criminal and you loose your license and will get yourself a life-long criminal record - so despite all the risks of harm to your self and others its very hard to recover from the legal issues also....

I must say that at 260 the car does feel very uneventful and very smooth still - there is no real sensation of that speed. On a track alone may have also helped with the lack of speed feeling.

I thought the car handled very well at that speed; suspension and braking were pretty decent I thought for the speed. but again there was no real test of them either as it was a pretty flat run, and lots of room to brake and very safe so no real testing of the those systems.

I think its important to note that I have the dinan Stage II and the suspension upgrades for the car. DHP/ARS was on Sport+

I had a M6 v10 before (convertible) and that car you knew you were doing these kind of speeds. the 550 feels like very relaxing at that speed to the point you could forget how fast and dangerous that would be on a public road. I would suspect that a standard corner on a freeway would bring back a good deal of excitement to the experience however...

You can however have this limited removed by tunes or coding if it gets in your way on the track

You are absolutely 100% correct. For the car, that is.

IMHO if you are going to do triple digits, you are nuts to do it on an American highway. Do it at a HPDE, with flag stations, one way traffic, strategically placed ARMCO, and EMT's at the scene. If you do it on a public highway, you not only have to worry about the police, but also:
  • Critters like deer, moose, armadillos and the like, who will pop up in front of you faster than you can react.
  • Trees and bridge abutments that will punish you when you run out of talent.
  • Dip**** drivers who change lanes without checking their mirrors, let alone signalling;
  • Distracted drivers texting away, putting on makeup, or reading the morning paper in the belief they can multi-task safely.
  • Super Terp's friend who is not only drunk, but driving the wrong way on the Interstate.... coming at you with a combined closing speed of 200 mph, and absolutely no ability to avoid you.

Attending an HPDE is a tremendous way or mitigating risk, PLUS you will almost certainly become a better driver, and have a blast in the process.

/Rant

Agree. Sorry, didn't mean to jump at you. I just had a bad day about 3 years ago. Hadn't had a ticket in over 30 years, yada yada... I do one lame brain move and get pulled over, had to appear in court, etc. etc.

I've had mine to 130. I'm a serious speed junkie. I ride my motorcycles at much higher speeds from time to time, and had my Z06 to 170. The 550 gets to 130 effortlessly and feels like you could be sipping coffee and searching for your favorite tunes at that speed.

The risk of all of these things, including road quality, is highly dependent on where you live in the States and can even vary from road to road in the same state or county.

The interstate roads in Utah are good, especially in the metropolitan areas they are of very high quality. Potholes are just not something we worry about here. This isn't where you would drop 120, but there are highways of high enough quality and great visibility that are rarely traveled that can be used from time to time to sip coffee at 130 (as was previously mentioned)
