140 mph in Germany. Car felt like it could do much more but traffic didn't allow.

Not going to share max speed in the states. ;-)

Hit the speed limiter on the Autobahn...it's 250 km/h or roughly 155mph. I wanted more.

Well, 155MPH in my 1997 Audi A4 back when I Lived and worked in Eastern NC. No one on the freeway meant I could safely floor it. Now living in Chicago, not so much.

I've hit 120 before driving from NY to Boston. It was pretty scary. The car felt tight but I felt in control. Drove 120 for about 5 seconds and decided it was enough of a thrill haha.

In my 535 about 105. For those in Chicago, this was on I-90 (the stretch between Randall Rd. and IL-59). Seriously, a lot of cars are going at least 85-95 on this stretch. However, I must say though, about 7 years ago or so, I was nabbed by ISP on this same stretch doing 115, in my infiniti I35. I just floored it for a second there. It was about 1 am, unknown to me that the car trailing me was a trooper. The ticket was $585. Actually anything more than 30 over the limit is a flat $500 fine. He also ticketed me $85 for failing to signal when he pulled me over. Bottom line - like others said, it's not worth it.

I have some I-90 experience too. Years ago when I was a teenager I did 105 on I-90 crossing lake Washington from Mercer Island to Seattle in a 1988 Honda Accord. I remember feeling like I was going to die at that speed, at least in that car, so never pushed passed 90 again until I got into my first BMW three years ago. Then it became all to easy to accidentally jump over 90 on an overtake. When 125 feels like 105, which feels like 90, which feels like 70, which feels like 50, well...

Let's see......130mph on the autobahn from munich to zurich. Then 139mph on the highway from zurich to milan. I think I actually got caught by a speed trap camera because I definitely remember the flash going off. But thankfully I haven't received anything in the mail. And the car (2012 550i msport) was solid as a rock and could have easily gone faster. Yeah I pretty much disregarded the break-in period on that trip.

Went around 135mph once, felt amazing and solid for a big GT, and it was before any lowering H&R or DINAN... LOL and Infiniti G37 and E90 335i LCI tried to keep up that day, but they couldn't handle the Twin-Turbo V8

I have had my E46's maxed out at 128 mph or whatever out here a few times. Nowadays, you are risking a full on CHP pull over in force, rip you out of the car at gunpoint, beatdown, taze and arrest though, (and probably deservedly so).
That's real. I believe in California there was a recent change in the law that if you are caught speeding over 100mph it is an instant misdemeanor, you are arrested, and your car is towed. At least that's what a friend in law enforcement told me. Although I haven't checked the vehicle code/penal code to verify this.

Ask Tyreke Evans...........different rules and fines (less) if you're rich though, obviously.

I never went beyond 95 in F10 and it was effortless.
Considering my past record, I will be put in jail for sure ! Lost my license for speeding 3 times in under 12 months in 2008. Almost got caught doing 126 in a rented cobalt in 2006. I dont even want to talk about my high speed on my R6. But one of these days, I will push F10 to its limits for sure..

As a retired COP I had to actually stop & think about this question since I've driven so fast on so many occasions I'm not really sure, probably I have hit 150MPH or faster on a number of occasions easily out running our Airship at times, but none of those were "Pleasure drives" as it usually involved chasing someone wanted for serious crimes who was a danger to the community, all while negotiating traffic, & obstacles & occasionally with bullets coming toward you, that made it hard to watch the speedometer for obvious reasons

I think the one time I truly scared myself & freely admit that the way I drove was to say the least not prudent was when I was a young Rookie, maybe 21, when I was racing to the aid of another officer who was actively engaged in a running shoot out on foot with an armed robber who had already killed one person during a restaurant robbery. In covering the 3-4 miles to get to where the other officer was I hit 120MPH on city streets, lights & siren blaring, but there was no traffic, it was 3am & it was a clear shot down a main avenue that was quite wide. When I hit one particular intersection that had a slight uprise at that speed I became momentarily airborne. Now at 120MPH street lights, buildings, parked cars, trees, street people, go by you in an absolute blur, believe me it's worse while your Airborne, I bottomed out so hard that the skid plates (steel plates under the oil pans & engines/transmissions to keep them from being torn off at such times) left a shower of sparks behind me & the car began to slide/fish tale & I thought I was a gonner, but that trusty Chrysler held it together, straightened out & got me there just in time.

As I slowed to where the foot chase was going the suspect ran out in to the street where I narrowly missed hitting him, but he was not so lucky as another officer following me could not stop in time & hit him full on, tossing him into the air like a rag doll, he miraculously lived (Barely) & is doing time somewhere for life. I could never drive like that today, it would be un-nerving but it helps when your young and think your invincible

In my 528Xi I have hit 110MPH on a desolate stretch of highway in southern NM. It felt no different than doing 70MPH. I routinely travel through west Texas where the Daytime speed limit is 85 & 80 depending on where you are and just doing 5 over puts you at 90MPH but the roads are good, strait & for the most part people traveling them seem to understand that you stay in the right lane except to pass, something that sadly is misunderstood in most other places.

Since this seems to be way more mature audience, I will ask a question that I wouldn't dare asking on E90 (nor F30) forum.

What is the thrill of going 150 mph in a straight line?

Let me explain. I did multiple runs in a sig picture car from 70 mph to 140 mph during ED and it was a blast. By "multiple" I mean more than a dozen for sure. I was trying to break in the engine - no, seriously. But going 140 mph wasn't entertaining at all - what was entertaining was getting there (my God that sound in 4th gear from around 3,500 rpm at 70 mph to 6,800 rpm at 140!) and then braking for traffic, then rinse and repeat.

If I were on those highways in pictures some posted, I don't know how fast I would go if it were unrestricted, but I sure as hell wouldn't risk my license by driving 150 mph there - in a straight line and with no traffic around (I don't mean U.S. traffic, obviously, I would want German, Italian or Finnish drivers around when doing that). I drove through New Mexico 75 in 70 for almost 200 miles and then from Roswell to Lubbock again driving 5 over the limit - wouldn't risk license or ticket on those roads for very little or no fun to be had. For myself only, obviously.

I hope I explained what I wanted to say. I would really like to know what thrills you when doing that.

For me, it's not a big thrill, which is why it rarely happens.

When I make the SLC to Vegas drive, I want to make good time. I-15 in southern Utah is mostly 80 so good time can be made going between 85 and 95 depending on visibility and traffic, with spurts up to 110 occasionally when the situation is very safe (you do have to travel on an off day when there aren't many drivers on the interstate for this type of speed opportunity to be available and still be safe).

It is not difficult to cut an hour and a half off that drive but to be safe about it you do have to often vary your speed. Passing someone who is going 82 while you are at 95 isn't all that wise. Break down to 85 while you overtake them, then put your foot down after.

So the acceleration thrill, which is more of a thrill than just a constant speed, is there because you hit it hard when visibility and the road ahead opens up and then you back off when appropriate. Anyway, this is just an example.

Regarding high speed in a straight line vs. high speed in twisties, I personally am not a big fan of high speed in twisties because the thrill of barely missing a biker around a corner is just not there for me. So for me, twisties consists of going the speed limit around a corner and then hitting it hard after the corner when there is a patch of straight road, good visibility, and no other cars there.

For me, the very most important consideration in driving fast is visibility. Is visibility at least very good. A close second would be: are there other vehicles in the vicinity (say, within 30 seconds of my current position). But again, I'm not talking about driving all the time like this. Just occasionally and usually when the overall start to end distance of the trip is at least an hour or two.

Just my take.

Tyreke Evans plead "no contest" to the charge of reckless driving. Evans was put on probation for three years and had his license suspended for 30 days. Evans was also dealt 80 hours of community service time and ordered to take part in a driving program.

Sounds about right. It doesn't appear that he got a special celebrity deal. That only happens in Los Angeles courts. Here he would have been put on double secret probation.

My most miserable high speed moment was 124mph on my BMW F800ST. Had to see what it would do and it met the spec sheet, right on. No crash or harm done but what terrible buffeting! Don't need to ever do that again. Much better under 85.

Now F10, whoa, really smooth when fast!

155 putting a red Corvette in his place on a very empty turnpike 3 weeks ago.... limiter kicked in, in 6th gear car felt great, solid and was amazing. That said... really dont want to do it again unless on a closed course. Seemed it took forever to get back to 75 mph speed limit.... but what a rush

When the road sign said 100km to Munich, I was able to look over to Mrs D tell her we'll be back at the rental apartment within a half hour. She rolled her eyes, but even accounting for the non-Autobahn surface roads in Munich, I still made it in a half hour. Well ... that's exciting to me.

Even though I had to roll up the windows around 135mph, doing 155mph in a convertible with the top down is another type of thrilling experience.
