Does our 6 need an extended warranty?

As a new 650i owner, specifically an 09' convertible with 33k miles I could use some help from my fellow owners on whether to pay $3,500-4000 for a 5 year vs 100k mile extended warranty. As long as we maintain our car the right way do we really need it? Any and all advice is appreciated.

If you are mechanically inclined & are handy with the tools, you could be ok. The repairs on a BMW can be quite steep if repaired at the dealer. If you can not expect to have the money for unexpected repairs, buy the warranty!

I bought a 100k miles/5 year including optional navigation (electronics) coverage for my 07 from AutoPom when I bought it in Dec. 2011. The best plan (coverage varies by state) with zero deductible and additional coverage was about about $2,800.

So far 2 small claims but they did total almost 1k in dealer repairs. They have been easy to work with. Talking it in tomorrow for a TPM issue and I don't have to worry.

I would do it again in a minute.

Get a warranty but I would shop around. I bought a platinum warranty for my M6 that was only $3300 so I would get the warranty but shop around!

Hi Rey,

I take it to both. At long as they are a licensed shop you can go there. It's at the dealer right now for a TMP issue.

Does our 6 need an extended warranty?

I'd highly recommend a warranty on these kinds of cars. Go with AutoPOM just like roseng did. I'm in the process of getting one.

I bought one from AutoPOM last July when my factory warranty ran out. I have had one claim so far in December for $900+ and the dealership SA arranged the service with Mercury. I got a loaner and when I picked up my 6 up a couple of days later, I paid the $50 deductible and that was it. Mercury paid Hendrick direct for the rest.

I Went with the Autopom extended warranty. My 2009 650I warranty with 6,500 miles was up on 2/28/13 and I needed a warranty to be safe. After reading many posts about warranty's I made up my mind. 84 months, 100,000 miles bumper to bumper platinum with the electronic package, 0 deductible for $2,468. They also offered 0% financing for 18 months with 10% down payment. I uploaded the 10 page final contract which was mailed to me, if anyone wants to compare them with anybody else. If anybody else want's to upload there own extended warranty contract to help other members, please post.

See here for the Autopom contract and hear what others say about extend warranty's

Thanks for all of your responses. MSA, yours was the most helpful as we're in the same boat.

Coverages vary by state but one of the things I liked most about the Platinum policy for CA was that it's an exclusion policy. What that means is that there is a list of what is not covered. If it's not on that list, than it's covered. Very simple to see what they are covering that way.

Also there is an add on for the electronic components. I think it's called the DVD package. That will cover the Nav, DVD, audio and other complaints. Make sure you get that too.

I've done 3 claims with them. 2 from the Stealer and one at an indie shop. All were easy as you could want.

Good luck

+1

I just finished getting the Platinum coverage with AutoPOM. The special electronics package is worth the cost should an electronic item fail.
