F22 / F23 2 Series (2014 - Current)
The 2 Series coupe is the replacement for the E82/E88 1 series coupe. Production starts in November 2013 on the 228i (N20) and M235i (N55) coupes. Look for them in dealerships in February 2014. The convertible F23 2 series will follow in the fall of 2014.

Question 2 Series Sedan?

Was this just a roumored idea or something to be expected for sure down the road? Pardon my ignorance on the subject but it was never made clear to me after searching.

It's a little confusing. I think BMW intends to make the 1 series into a 4 door and make the 2 series the coupe derivative off of that platform. Except, there will be a 2 series Gran Coupe, which will have four doors.

Ahh I see. Sort of like the 3 and the 4. But that Gran Coupe would certainly muck things up if its a 2.

Also what model year is the 1 expected to revamp with 2doors and new body "F30 looking grill"?

or like the 5 and 6 where is there is already a gran coupe variant. Apparently they're planning on doing a gran coupe version of the 4 series as well. Seems 4 door coupes are all the rage now.

Well, actually they are the rage up in the $70-90K range, where the 6GC, CLS, and A7 sit. But I'm not sure there is enough room for price differentiation off of the 1- and 3-series platforms. Meaning that the Gran Coupe versions of those cars are just going to be better-looking versions of the sedans for $5K or so more. Who wouldn't choose a GC over the comparable sedan in that circumstance.

As pointed out above there will be a 1 series sedan with 4 doors based on the F20 1 series platform but updated styling. Expect both the 1 and 2 series to get F30 3 series style front headlight treatment. There is also the 2 series gran coupe being planned (more details here) which will be a 4 door coupe. It is confusing but will make sense once both cars are out and you can see the styling and size different and the pricing difference.

This is interesting. Although I'm a 3 lover i really want to see how these turn out. I may be swayed if the price is right.

2 Series Gran Coupe M sounds nigh perfect to me. My F30 is massive and I don't need so much space or so much bulk.

We'll see. VW has been in this market for several years with the cc. Not sure how successful it's been. The CLA will be interesting to watch.

If be surprised if they charge a 5k premium for the 2 or 4 gran coupes compared to the regular sedan.
